Job Description

ABM is seeking an experienced Lead HVAC Technician to oversee day-to-day field execution of commercial and industrial HVAC projects. This role is primarily field-based and responsible for supervising technicians and subcontractors, coordinating daily work activities, enforcing safety and quality standards, and ensuring projects are installed according to scope, schedule, and specifications. The Lead HVAC Technician is a working leader who provides direct oversight in the field, supports project management teams, and serves as the primary on-site authority for workmanship, safety, and productivity. This position also supports the project management function with budgeted cost, contracted scope and completed execution of services on-time; it does not carry full project financial ownership or P&L responsibility but is focused on quality and execution, rather than administrative project management. Military Occupational Specialty Code: 91E, 91C, EM, HT, MK, DC, 1161, 1341, 3E1X1 Field Leadership & SupervisionSupervise HVAC installation technicians, lead mechanics, and subcontractors on active job sitesAssign daily work tasks, set priorities, and ensure crews are properly staffed and productiveProvide hands-on technical guidance and support to field teamsServe as the primary on-site point of contact for field execution issuesProject Execution SupportExecute work in accordance with approved project plans, drawings, schedules, and specificationsCoordinate closely with Project Managers regarding manpower needs, sequencing, and progressMonitor job progress and report field status, risks, and constraints to project leadershipAssist with startup, commissioning, punch lists, and closeout activitiesSafety & QualityEnforce ABM safety policies, OSHA requirements, and site-specific safety plansConduct regular safety briefings and job hazard analyses (JHAs)Perform quality inspections to ensure installations meet ABM standards, manufacturer requirements, and applicable codesAddress rework or deficiencies promptly to maintain schedule and qualityMaterials, Equipment & LogisticsCoordinate delivery, staging, and use of materials and equipment at job sitesEnsure proper care and use of tools, vehicles, and company equipmentAssist with tracking materials and reporting shortages or delaysCustomer & Team InteractionRepresent ABM professionally on job sites and interact with customers, inspectors, and other trades as neededResolve field-level issues with customers or site personnel and escalate when appropriateMentor and develop technicians and lead personnel through coaching and feedbackAdministrative & Reporting (Limited)Submit daily or weekly field reports, time tracking, and installation documentation as requiredSupport payroll accuracy by verifying hours workedParticipate in project meetings as needed to support executionExperience5 plus years of hands-on experience in commercial or industrial HVAC installationPrior experience as a Lead Technician, Foreman, or Supervisor strongly preferredExperience with retrofit, replacement, and mechanical system installationsTechnical KnowledgeStrong working knowledge of HVAC systems including RTUs, chillers, boilers, piping, and controlsAbility to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and installation documentsFamiliarity with building automation systems (BAS) preferredLeadership & CommunicationProven ability to lead field crews and subcontractors effectivelyStrong communication skills with technicians, project managers, and customersAbility to resolve field issues quickly and professionally About Us ABM (NYSE: ABM) is one of the world’s largest providers of facility services and solutions.
