Job Summary and QualificationsPOSITION SUMMARY:Responsible for the overall operation of the department. Responsible for orienting, evaluating, and documenting competency of personnel. Establishes, maintains, and revises departmental policies and procedure to include departmental programs, quality control, performance improvement, and safety. Maintains departmental expenses and productivity as budgeted. Oversees respiratory care as delivered by the Respiratory Therapy department. Participates in providing patient specific care standards as directed, and follows service excellence standards to ensure high levels of patient satisfaction.ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Hires and directs departmental staff in the performance of their duties Interviews all prospective applicants (High Risk/High Volume) Assists with departmental and general orientation and training and competency assessment of employees (High Risk/Low Volume) Counsels employees when indicated in accordance with hospital and departmental policies (High Risk/Low Volume) Utilizes staff effectively through scheduling and work assignments (High Risk/High Volume) Oversees and maintains the following departmental programs Develops and revises clinical policies and procedure specific to area as needed Assists with department quality assurance and quality control programs taking corrective action when indicated (High Risk/Low Volume) Follows and enforces all safety policies (High Risk/Low Volume) Assists with continuing education programs within the department Assists with education and training of ICU nursing staff, nurse practitioners and physicians. Provides educational resources for intensive care units within the partnership. Performs charge reconciliation for the department. Utilizes the following tools to manage resources to ensure adherence to budget Maintains expenses and productivity within a budgeted variance (High Risk/Low Volume) Obtains equipment and supplies as needed to meet patient care demands (High Risk/Low Volume) Assures that equipment will function according to standards, having repairs or replacements made as necessary Identifies and recommends items for capital purchase Evaluates data to determine the most cost-effective methods and supplies Addresses departmental issues to ensure optimal delivery of services Resolves problems when systems deviate from the established performance specification (High Risk/Low Volume) Addresses employee concerns and conflicts according to hospital policy (High Risk/Low Volume) Addresses customer-related issues according to hospital policy (High Risk/Low Volume) Participates and utilizes FOCUS-PDCA tools to address inter and intra-departmental issues Creates a supportive climate by serving as a role model of guest relations behavior Communicates via written, verbal, face-to-face, telephone and computer methods Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned Performs essential functions of the director in the director’s absence as needed Performs duties of Respiratory Therapy Shift Coordinator when assigned Performs duties of a Respiratory Therapist when assigned and when workload dictates. Responds immediately to Code Blue and Code Pink and correctly manages the airway and external compressions (High Risk/Low Volume) Responds immediately to all emergent patient situations including but not limited to Code Blue, Code Pink, Rapid Response, Stroke Alert, and Trauma Alert. Overseeing Respiratory Therapy Department Helps coordinates monthly Respiratory Therapy department meetings. Provides education and resources for respiratory therapy related equipment and procedures. Miscellaneous coordinator duties. Maintains and approves the facility scheduler Abides by all HCA Code of Conduct and annual Refresher standards. Employee’s conduct must reflect the Company’s values and a commitment to the Code of Conduct ethics and compliance program. Employee reflects SDH Service Excellence standards in every interaction. Other duties as assigned.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Required: Respects and maintains the confidentiality of information relative to patient care. Adheres to and enforces prescribed safety policies and regulations Works independently with minimal direction Functions as a liaison between respiratory care and the respiratory care customers Provides care for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Operates general equipment, including but not limited to: telephones, computer keyboards and CRT, respiratory therapy delivery equipment. Recognizes that variables such as age, race, nationality, culture, disease-causing vulnerabilities, and socioeconomic factors affect the patient populations under their care. Uses interventions appropriate to these factors (e.g., interpreter, dietary preferences, social service consult, etc.). Ability to read and write in English. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical reports. Ability to write accurate and concise clinical documents, memos, and required business correspondence. Ability to collect and analyze data using statistical methods. Ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the department and with department customers. Must be able to demonstrate understanding of national patient safety initiatives by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures as required by both HCA and St. David’s . What qualifications you will need:Advanced Cardiac Life Spt must be obtained within 6 months of employment start dateBasic Cardiac Life Support(RRT/RCP-State) Respiratory Therapist/PractitionerAssociate Degree(NBRC-CRT) Certified Respiratory Therapist, or (NBRC-RRT) Registered Respiratory TherapistAssociate degree from an American Medical Association accredited Respiratory Therapy program required; previous clinical experience in Respiratory Care Services.
