Essential Job Summary:: The Senior Maintenance Manager is a senior field-execution leader responsible for overseeing multiple fleet maintenance locations within an assigned area. This role serves as the primary execution arm of the company’s Fleet Maintenance Department, ensuring that enterprise maintenance standards, KPIs, and financial controls are consistently deployed and sustained at the shop level. This position does not set enterprise maintenance strategy but is fully accountable for executing it—driving consistency, developing maintenance leaders, stabilizing underperforming locations, and ensuring fleet availability, safety compliance, and cost discipline across a complex, high-utilization refuse and heavy-duty fleet. Other minor duties may be assigned.: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  Other duties may be assigned.  Multi-Site Fleet LeadershipProvide direct oversight and leadership to Maintenance Managers and Supervisors across multiple locationsEnsure consistent execution of IWS maintenance standards, policies, and proceduresServe as the escalation point for complex operational, technical, and personnel issuesCoach, mentor, and develop maintenance leadership talent to support succession planningMaintenance Execution & ReliabilityEnsure disciplined execution of preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programsDrive high asset availability and uptime across refuse trucks, tractors, trailers, roll-off, and support equipmentLead structured root cause analysis (RCA) for repeat failures, downtime assets, and cost outliersEnforce standardized repair practices, PM intervals, and inspection protocolsKPI Ownership & Performance ManagementOwn area-level maintenance KPIs, including but not limited to:-PM Efficiency, Labor Efficiency, Fleet Availability & Downtime, R&M Spend vs Budget, Backlog Aging & Work Order Management, DVIR Closure & Regulatory ComplianceConduct weekly and monthly performance reviews with Maintenance ManagersDevelop and execute corrective action plans for underperforming locationsEnsure readiness and accuracy for Monthly Operating Reviews (MORs) and executive reportingFinancial StewardshipManage and control area-level maintenance spend within approved budgetsForecast labor, parts, and outside service costs with accuracy and disciplineIdentify cost-reduction opportunities without compromising safety or reliabilityPartner with Directors on capital recommendations based on asset condition and performance dataCMMS & Process DisciplineEnforce strict CMMS compliance across all assigned locationsEnsure accuracy and completeness of:Work order notes, Labor hours, Parts usage & Equipment StatusAudit work order quality and backlog health regularlyDrive standard workflows and data discipline to support enterprise analyticsSafety & ComplianceChampion a safety-first culture across all maintenance locationsEnsure compliance with OSHA, DOT, environmental regulations, and company policiesLead safety audits, inspections, and corrective actionsEnsure adherence to LOTO, HECP, hot-work, and shop safety standardsMaintain audit-ready documentation and regulatory recordsVendor & Contractor OversightOversee execution of vendor, contractor, and OEM relationships at the area levelEnsure vendor performance aligns with cost, quality, and turnaround expectationsSupport contract compliance and service-level adherencePartner with Procurement and Directors on supplier performance feedback Shedule: 6am to 5pm Monday through Friday alternating Saturday. Requirements and Qualifications:: Minimum 7+ years of progressive fleet maintenance experience, including multi-site oversightBachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)Prior experience managing large, heavy-duty vehicle fleets (refuse, vocational, or similar)Proven 5 years of leadership experience managing Maintenance Managers and/or SupervisorsThe Senior Maintenance Manager is expected toOperate with high ownership and accountabilityLead with consistency, discipline, and professionalismDevelop leaders—not just fix problemsServe as a stabilizing force during growth, acquisitions, and operational changeAct as a trusted execution partner to Directors and Corporate Fleet Maintenance leadership Strong working knowledge of:Preventive maintenance programsReliability and downtime reductionOSHA safety standards (LOTO, HECP, shop safety)CMMS-driven maintenance operationsDemonstrated ability to manage budgets, analyze performance data, and drive executionAdvanced root cause problem-solving and analytical skillsStrong communication, coaching, and leadership presenceExperience in refuse, waste, recycling, or heavy vocational fleet environmentsLean, Six Sigma, or reliability-focused certificationsFamiliarity with enterprise maintenance KPIs and executive reporting cadence Additional Information: This job description is intended to be an accurate representation of the general functions of the job, rather than exhaustive list of duties, responsibilities, or experience.
