Job Functions, Duties, Responsibilities and Position Qualifications:The Senior Med Tech is part of the management team and as such performs limited supervisory roles. Each Senior Med Tech will be assigned a specific area which they will become a subject matter expert (SME) and assist the remainder of the management team including the Laboratory Director, Technical Director, Laboratory Manger and Supervisor in assuring the area achieves accurate, reliable and timely testing service.In this role, you will perform technical testing duties as bench technologistAssist with appropriate test methods selectionAssists with adequate method verification or validation as new test are introduced or current ones are modifiedUpdate and/or write procedure (SOP) and related formsReview and sign monthly QC and maintenance according to CAP/State requirementAssist and monitor inventory by working with vendor, supply department, and supervisorAssist pathologists with inquiries and problem solvingReviews proficiency testing (and recommends changes when necessary) and assures compliance with CMS, State of Tennessee and CAP requirementsUpdate and maintain CAP checklist exhibit binder(s) and assures compliance with CMS, State of Tennessee and CAP requirementsAssures all proficiency samples are tested in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements and are returned to the providers in a timely manner for inclusion in grading events and peer comparison Ensures appropriate staff reviews proficiency reports and assists with resolutions proposals for any needed corrective actionMakes sure corrective action plans are put into place immediately, followed to prevent any future errors and reviews for appropriateness of noted error preventionEstablishes a quality assessment plan for the assigned area and enlists assistance from technical staff for data collection or other interpretation duties as neededEstablishes a quality control program, assures it is followed on all shifts and maintains the program with the assistance of available software or quality control providers supportEstablish a written procedure for all analytical test performed and reviews/reviews annually or sooner if updates are needed; assures availability to all personnelDeviations form established laboratory procedures are documented and the need for remedial action is communicated with the staff members supervisor/managerCorrected reports are issued as soon as an accurate result can be achieved; customer service is notified for client notificationAssure competency for all technical staff working in the assigned area; this includes initial training as well as maintained readiness for testing performance by monitoring all phases of testing that apply (pre-analytical, analytical and post analytical)Responsible for or assurance of training aw identified for new instrumentation, new procedure or remediation due to multiple mistakes or issues with a given procedureAssists with inventory, reagents and other consumables as directed by supervisorAssist with teaching duties when AEL partners with local colleges and universitiesServes as on site supervisor for weekend/holiday work assignments AND in the absence of department supervisorWhile this position is not solely responsible for scheduling, counseling, dispensary actions, performance evaluations or time keeping; recommendations for each of these are to be communicated to supervisor/managerCommunicates via email or verbally in a professional and timely manner.
