Job Description

The client is seeking an Assistant General Counsel specializing in Data Privacy and Commercial matters to act as the primary legal advisor on U.S. data privacy issues, while also supporting a wide range of commercial legal needs. The position is based in Fort Worth, TX, with a hybrid working arrangement, and reports to an Associate General Counsel responsible for employment, commercial, and data privacy areas. This new role requires the candidate to work closely with both U.S. and global stakeholders. The ideal candidate for this role should possess extensive knowledge of federal and state privacy laws in the U.S. and have the ability to approach matters with a practical, business-oriented mindset. The key responsibilities for this position include advising on data privacy compliance and risk management, and staying abreast of and responding to new privacy laws and guidelines. The role also involves drafting and negotiating terms related to data protection and commercial agreements. Additionally, the candidate will support privacy impact assessments, handle incident response and data subject requests, and collaborate with cross-functional teams and outside legal counsel. A significant aspect of the role is ensuring that the client's operations are in compliance with current data privacy regulations and proactively managing any related risks. To qualify for this role, candidates must have a Juris Doctor degree and active U.S. bar membership, along with more than five years of experience in U.S. data privacy law. Experience in negotiating privacy and commercial agreements is required, and having a background in healthcare, life sciences, or pharmaceuticals is considered advantageous. Privacy certifications such as CIPP/US are preferred. This role is ideally suited for a cooperative and dynamic attorney who is eager to build and enhance privacy programs in close coordination with business operations.
