Position SummaryThe Registered Nurse (RN) - Charge Nurse functions under the direction of the Nurse Manager and assumes responsibility for clinical operations of the hospital during assigned shifts. In collaboration with nursing leadership, the Charge Nurse ensures the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care while supporting staff, coordinating workflow, and maintaining compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.The Charge Nurse serves as the first line of clinical support for staff, physicians, and other providers, providing leadership, prioritization, and direction to meet the operational and clinical demands of the hospital. Essential ResponsibilitiesClinical Leadership & OperationsOversees daily clinical operations and ensures continuity of care across all departmentsServes as the primary clinical resource for staff, physicians, and interdisciplinary team membersProvides leadership, guidance, and support to nursing staff during assigned shiftsAssesses unit needs and prioritizes staffing assignments and patient care activitiesCoordinates admissions, patient flow, and room placementCommunicates significant events, concerns, and unusual occurrences to leadershipPatient Care & SafetyEnsures delivery of safe, effective, and patient-centered careMonitors and evaluates patient care activities to reduce risk and prevent errorsMay provide direct patient care as needed based on unit demandsEnsures accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in medical recordsPromotes adherence to rehabilitation nursing philosophy and best practicesQuality & ComplianceEnsures compliance with nursing scope of practice, hospital policies, and HIPAA regulationsOversees completion and accuracy of Interdisciplinary Care PlansSupports Quality Indicator (QI) processes, ensuring timely and accurate assessmentsParticipates in performance improvement initiatives and outcome monitoringReinforces adherence to accreditation and regulatory standardsStaff Support & DevelopmentSupports staff development, education, and competency validationPromotes a positive, professional work environmentAssists with employee relations, communication, and conflict resolutionEncourages professional growth, including specialty certifications (e.g., CRRN)Ensures staff participation in team conferences and required trainingOperational & Administrative DutiesManages staffing plans, scheduling, and nursing hours per patient dayMonitors productivity, overtime, and agency utilizationEnsures accurate and timely patient charge entryAssists leadership with departmental goals, budgets, and special projects QualificationsEducationGraduate of an accredited Registered Nurse (RN) programBachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferredExperienceMinimum of two years of experience in rehabilitation or acute care setting requiredPrevious leadership or charge nurse experience preferredLicensureCurrent state licensure as a Registered NurseCertificationsCPR/BLS certification requiredCertified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (CRRN) preferred Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesStrong leadership, clinical judgment, and decision-making skillsAbility to plan, coordinate, and direct clinical activitiesExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsStrong problem-solving and critical thinking abilitiesProficiency in basic computer systems and documentation Company Standards & ExpectationsMaintains confidentiality of patient and employee information in accordance with HIPAA Adheres to hospital policies, procedures, and ethical standards Demonstrates professionalism in appearance, communication, and conduct Completes required education, training, and competency requirements Promotes a culture of safety, respect, and patient-centered care Supports and communicates the mission, vision, and goals of the organization Equal Employment Opportunity StatementPeak Rehabilitation Hospital is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
