About this Job: General Summary of PositionThe goal of the MedStar Sports Medicine Sports Physical Therapy Residency is to provide the physical therapy resident with an opportunity to develop advanced competence and clinical expertise in the specialty field of sports physical therapy. The sports physical therapy resident will be offered the strongest education in the development of sports physical therapy theoretical rationale evaluation and treatment skills and clinical reasoning processes in order to promote the prevention treatment and rehabilitation of injuries in an active patient population Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesDevelop sports physical therapy theoretical rationale evaluation and treatment skills and clinical reasoning processes in order to promote the prevention treatment and rehabilitation of injuries in an active patient populationDevelop sports physical therapist skill set through didactic experience addressing each of the areas of foundational knowledge in the APTA Description of Specialty Practice for SportsIncrease sports physical therapist clinical experience under the mentorship of physical therapists who specialize in the field of sports medicineInteract in all areas of sports medicine to include shadowing with sports medicine physicians and on-field experience with certified athletic trainersDevelop research skills to foster critical thinking and evidence-based practice crucial to the development of our profession in the field of sports medicineSit for and pass board examination as a clinical specialist in Sports Physical Therapy Minimal QualificationsEducationBachelor's degree from an accredited school of Physical Therapy required orMaster's degree from an accredited school of Physical Therapy required orDoctoral degree from an accredited school of Physical Therapy required Experience1-2 years clinical experience in an outpatient rehabilitation setting with demonstrated clinical expertise preferred Professional competency as a physical therapist or new graduate with at least one year experience Physical Therapist preferred Licenses and CertificationsPT - Physical Therapist licensure in Maryland District of Columbia (DC) and/or Virginia as deemed necessary for your specific location(s) required CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit. Knowledge Skills and AbilitiesProfessional competency as a general practitioner in physical therapy; demonstrates independent use of varied evaluation and treatment approaches. This position has a hiring range of : USD $74,214.00 - USD $134,596.00 /Yr.
