Is it in yours?This full-time opportunity is in the Microbiology Department of Clinical Pathology Laboratories (CPL) in Austin, Texas. We are seeking an Microbiology Assistant Supervisor to work primarily on first shift (7:30 AM – 3:30 PM) Monday-Friday with rotating weekends. This is a bench-working position with responsibilities divided between high-complexity testing and administrative support of daily laboratory operations.In This Role, You Will:Perform high-complexity Microbiology testing, including enzyme Immunoassays (EIA), organism identification, antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST), result review, and critical result communicationSupport daily bacteriology operations, including workflow coordination, troubleshooting, inventory management, quality monitoring, and adherence to established proceduresAssist the Supervisor with training, coaching, competency assessment, audits, inspections, validations, and implementation of process or instrumentation changesHelp identify testing, workflow, staffing, quality, and safety concerns, escalating issues to the Supervisor with relevant details and proposed solutionsMaintain compliance with laboratory safety protocols, quality control standards, regulatory requirements, and accreditation guidelinesPromote team morale, professionalism, and collaboration across teams, departments, and shiftsWhat We’re Looking For:Bachelor’s degree or higher in a biological, medical, or laboratory scienceAt least 3 years of experience in a high-complexity clinical microbiology laboratoryStrong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated analytical and problem-solving abilityAbility to support daily workflow coordination while maintaining competency in bench testingAbility to recognize testing, workflow, quality, and staffing concerns and communicate them effectively to leadershipCommitment to learning new techniques and technologies and supporting continuous professional developmentBonus Points If You Have:Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) in Microbiology or Medical Laboratory Science, or equivalent certificationExperience in a supervisory or leadership role within a high-complexity, high-throughput laboratoryWhat We Offer:Comprehensive benefits, including medical, dental, and vision insuranceA 401(k) plan with company match to support your retirement goalsWork-life balance, including Paid Time Off and Paid HolidaysFree lab services for you and your dependentsOpportunities to grow your career and expand your skillsAdditional Details:This role involves routine access to Protected Health Information (PHI).
