Overview: The Safety Manager is responsible for planning, organizing and implementing the MIC Safety Program demonstrating management skills and the ability to manage all aspects of a project safety program. May be the lead safety manager on a project and will report directly to the EHS Sr. Leadership or a Group/Senior Safety Manager. Will demonstrate skills of a Safety Manager, with progressively increasing responsibility and authority. Location & Travel Details: You can be based in any city or state in the U.S.. This is a traveling, project based position, up to 90% of the time. You have the potential to be placed on a project site located in any state throughout the US. You’ll spend 8-18 months on average per project. We offer designated per diem in addition to an excellent base salary to support and help you cover living expenses. This position is eligible for mobilization support (may include mileage reimbursement), and includes one longer weekend every four weeks for additional time at home. A company vehicle and fuel card OR vehicle allowance will be provided. Responsibilities: ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Safety:Oversee and manage all aspects of the safety program on complex construction projectsConduct workplace safety checks to identify safety infractions and initiate Stop Work Authority when necessaryGive direction and guidance to onsite construction staff on corrective action for safety infractions to eliminate hazards and mitigate future risk.Provide Safety Leadership creating enthusiasm and participation among management and craft workers, resulting in excellent safety performanceParticipate in the jobsite R4 Safety Committee as required and monitor results for presentation to site managementChair or assist in site safety committee meeting and R4 meetings, review R4 documents and present info to managementAttend the weekly general safety meeting, weekly supervisor’s safety meeting, and daily Gang box meetings Communicate between MIC and client management regarding safety mattersInput and review incident reportsMonitor all site safety reports and maintain site bulletin board for postings.Track, compile and present leading indicator statistics to the project leadership teamMaintain jobsite first aid and emergency response suppliesAdminister drug and alcohol testing on siteSpend 60% of time in the field on job sites. If unable, communicate this to the Senior Environmental Safety & Health ManagerCompliance:Identify workplace safety hazards and take all necessary steps to consult and guide site management in corrective action to eliminate or minimize them. Document actions on daily activity reportImplement the Zero Injury System of safety excellence on the projectsUnderstand and implement safety policies and proceduresUnderstand all environmental permitting regulations and measures to ensure complianceImplement the company environmental program and perform weekly inspections as requiredUnderstand all environmental permitting regulations and measures to ensure complianceLead site inspections and testing as necessary and compile DFR in timely fashionReview safety program documentation, record keeping, document posting, trenching and scaffold permitting and regulatory compliance documentationParticipate in planning and implementing a Hazard Communication Program in compliance with federal, state, and MIC policies, including a hazardous materials list, MSDS file, container labeling, employee training, and subcontractor communicationsPresent safety emphasis to site employees as identifiedParticipate in and lead emergency responsesMaintain Site Metrics and share with site and corporate managementPlanning:Partner with management in writing, organizing and implementing the job site safety plansWork directly with Project Manager and management team to develop, implement and maintain an effective site-specific safety planWork with Safety Department on overall program, project training needs, injury management, citation management, OSHA/MSHA reporting requirements and other applicable mattersOversee the MIC injury management program, set up a working relationship with a local physician, explaining the MIC philosophy of managing accidents and provide for basic first aidTraining:Coordinate and present safety training to support MIC and client requirements. Topics may include Planning, Documentation, New Hire Orientation, Fall Protection, Confined Space, Lockout/Tagout, Respiratory, etc. Qualifications: EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:Minimum of 1 year of construction safety management experience and have demonstrated the ability to provide a high level of safety leadership to both management and craft workersA high school diploma or GED is requiredCHST preferred and will be encouraged KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:Be knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project specific regulations.When on-site, actively participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors.Set a personal example of safe behavior.Functional computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and ExcelType and write reports with accuracy and appropriate grammarCommunication and report writingKnowledge of MSHA/OSHA regulations and hazard recognition, record keeping and injury managementCPR/First Aid Instructor certification and training experienceWork towards Professional certification (CHST, CMSP, etc.)Maintain in-depth relations with all members of their team and your supervisorOther may duties may be assigned PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions.May need to maintain physical strength and stamina; Use arms, hands, and legs fully; Push, pull, and frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; and stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb to perform job tasks.Stamina to perform this task repetitively and continuously for several hour intervals.Uncontrolled environmental conditions: Constant change in weather and site conditions.This work environment may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises.Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to- safety toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.).Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.May need to work at heights and must be able to abide by all safety and fall-protection requirements; must be able to wear and utilize all safety equipment required for work at heights.Evaluate information based on measurable standards; and see details in objects or drawings and recognize slight differences in shapes and shadings.Visualize objects in three dimensions from drawings.Keep good balance and work at heights.See well (either naturally or with correction).Hear well (either naturally or with correction.)Coordinate the use of eyes, hands, and feet.
