Together, our dedication to our associates and customers, commitment to growth and innovation, and our family traditions continue to thrive.***We are currently recruiting for the position of:****Senior Manager, Accounting - Modesto, CA**Job Summary:*The Senior Manager of Accounting is a critical leadership role responsible for overseeing complex accounting functions including inventory management, lease accounting, and the periodic financial close process for the company and its subsidiaries. This position requires advanced technical expertise in GAAP, strategic thinking capabilities, and strong leadership skills to guide a team of accounting professionals. The Senior Manager will serve as a subject matter expert on inventory valuation, lease accounting (ASC 842), and other technical accounting matters while partnering with executive leadership to provide strategic financial insights and ensure compliance with accounting standards. This role demands a proven leader who can drive process improvements, implement accounting standards, and develop talent while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.*Responsibilities:** *Technical Accounting Leadership** Lead all aspects of inventory accounting including valuation methods (LIFO), physical inventory procedures and reserve calculations* Oversee lease accounting compliance with ASC 842, including lease classification, ROU asset calculations, and system implementation (e.g. automated monthly journal entries and blackline integration)* Research and document technical accounting positions on complex transactions (e.g., ASC 606 vendor allowances, ASC 805 business combinations), preparing detailed memorandums for management and auditors* Ensure compliance with GAAP and stay current with new pronouncements from FASB and other regulatory bodies (e.g. SEC, IRS)* Act as primary liaison with external auditors for inventory, leases, and other assigned areas* *Financial Reporting and Analysis** Manage the month-end close process for assigned areas, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting* Review and approve complex journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and reserve calculations* Perform advanced financial analysis including flux analysis, trend analysis, and variance explanations* Prepare and present technical accounting findings and financial results to senior management* Oversee preparation of quarterly and annual financial statement disclosures for inventory and leases* *Process Improvement and Systems** Support implementation of new accounting systems and upgrades, particularly for inventory and lease management* Drive automation initiatives to improve efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting* Develop and maintain internal controls, policies, and procedures for inventory and lease accounting* Identify and implement best practices for inventory management including cycle counting and reconciliation procedures* Partner with store operations and IT to optimize inventory tracking systems and lease administration tools* *Team Leadership and Development** Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals, including hiring, training, and performance management* Support short, medium, and long-term strategic goals for the team focusing on people, process, and systems* Manage resource allocation and workload distribution to meet deadlines and business objectives* Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development* Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, FP&A, tax, legal, and other departments* *Strategic Business Partnership** Provide strategic insights into inventory optimization, working capital management* Partner with operations team on inventory planning, shrink management, and cost reduction initiatives* Support business development activities including due diligence for acquisitions and new lease negotiations* Act as finance business partner to operational leaders, providing data-driven insights for decision makingSome of our competitive offerings include generous benefits packages (Health, Dental, Vision, Life and AD&D, 401K), tuition reimbursement and scholarship opportunities, vacation and personal holidays, and in-store purchase discounts.Hiring pay range: $104,768.00 - 157,152.00*Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:** *Technical Expertise** Expert knowledge of GAAP, particularly in inventory accounting and lease accounting (ASC 842)* Strong understanding of inventory valuation methodologies* Experience with inventory reserve calculations, physical inventory procedures, and cycle counting* Proficiency in lease accounting software and inventory management systems* Advanced Excel skills including complex modeling, pivot tables, and data analysis* Experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar) and financial reporting tools* *Leadership and Communication** Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams in a fast-paced environment* Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to explain complex technical matters to non-financial stakeholders* Strong presentation skills with experience presenting to senior executives and Board members* Demonstrated ability to influence and build relationships across all organizational levels* Strategic thinking with the ability to balance technical accuracy with business practicality* *Analytical and Problem-Solving** Advanced analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex data into actionable insights* Strong problem-solving abilities with experience resolving complex accounting issues* Detail-oriented with proven ability to identify and correct errors* Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines without compromising quality* Experience conducting technical accounting research and documenting conclusions* *Professional Attributes** High integrity and ethical standards with respect for confidentiality* Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and take initiative* Adaptable and comfortable dealing with ambiguity* Continuous learner who stays current with accounting developments* Strong project management skills with the ability to lead cross-functional initiatives* *Preferred:** Big Four public accounting experience or equivalent highly preferred* Experience with retail or consumer goods industry accounting* Experience lease accounting or inventory* Track record of successful process improvement initiatives* Experience with acquisitions, integrations, or other complex transactions* Knowledge of retail inventory methods and grocery industry accounting practices*Experience: *7 years related experience inclusive of big four experience, 5 years management, supervisory, and/or leadership experience. 3 years of management/supervisory experience leading accounting teams*Education:* 4 year/Bachelors Degree and/or equivalent experience/training in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
