An opportunity is available for an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) to support K-12 students in a school setting located in Kent, WA. This contract position runs for the current school year (CSY) and focuses on providing specialized mobility and orientation instruction to visually impaired students, helping them build independence and confidence in navigating their environments.Scroll down to find an indepth overview of this job, and what is expected of candidates Make an application by clicking on the Apply button.Responsibilities:Assess students orientation and mobility needs and develop individualized instructional plansTeach safe travel techniques, use of mobility aids, and spatial orientation skillsCollaborate with teachers, parents, and support staff to integrate mobility goals into educational programsMonitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies as neededProvide training and resources to families and school personnel on orientation and mobility strategiesParticipate in relevant meetings, evaluations, and documentation processesQualifications:Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS or similar credential)Experience working with children and youth, preferably within K-12 educational settingsStrong knowledge of strategies and tools used for orientation and mobility for visually impaired individualsAbility to work collaboratively with educators, families, and multidisciplinary teamsExcellent communication skills and patience with children of varying abilitiesLocation: Kent, WashingtonThis contract role offers a chance to make a meaningful impact on students independence and quality of life within a supportive educational environment.
