Job Description

An Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) position is available for the 2025-2026 school year, providing essential support to K-12 students across Luzerne County. This full-time itinerant role serves multiple districts within the area, focusing on enhancing the independence and mobility skills of students with visual impairments.For a complete understanding of this opportunity, and what will be required to be a successful applicant, read on.Key Responsibilities:Assess and develop individualized orientation and mobility programs tailored to each students needs.Provide direct instruction in safe travel techniques using canes, public transportation, and other mobility aids.Collaborate with educators, families, and related service providers to integrate mobility strategies within the school environment.Maintain thorough documentation of student progress and participate in Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings.Ensure compliance with state regulations and safety protocols while delivering services across various district locations.Qualifications:Valid Orientation and Mobility Specialist License in Pennsylvania.Completion of all required Pennsylvania clearances prior to the start date.Experience working with K-12 students in an educational setting, ideally in an itinerant capacity.Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with students, families, and school teams.Ability to manage travel within Luzerne County to serve multiple school districts.Location: Itinerant throughout Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.This contract position offers between 30-35 hours per week beginning August 18, 2025.
