Located in Egg Harbor Township, NJ, this full-time contract opportunity for the school year positions a skilled professional as a 1:1 Sign Language Interpreter within a K-12 educational setting. The role focuses on facilitating effective communication for a student who is Deaf or Hard of Hearing, ensuring full access to academic content and social interactions through American Sign Language (ASL) or other communication methods outlined in the students Individualized Education Program (IEP).The following information aims to provide potential candidates with a better understanding of the requirements for this role.Key Responsibilities:Provide real-time interpretation between spoken English and ASL (or alternate IEP-specified communication modes) during classes, school activities, and other settings.Assist the student in understanding classroom instruction, assignments, and social engagement.Collaborate with educators and support staff to implement appropriate accommodations and instructional strategies.Uphold professionalism and confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and IDEA regulations.Participate in IEP meetings and offer insights regarding communication and access.Prepare in advance for classroom content to ensure precise interpretation.Encourage student independence and self-advocacy within the school environment.Qualifications:Fluency in American Sign Language; possession of RID certification or an EIPA score of at least 3.5 is required.High school diploma or GED is mandatory; associate or bachelors degrees in ASL Interpreting, Deaf Studies, or related fields are highly preferred.At least one year of experience working with school-aged children in an educational setting is preferred.Solid understanding of Deaf culture and the unique educational requirements of students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to remain professional and adaptable in a dynamic setting.Schedule:Monday through Friday during regular school hours, aligned with the academic calendar.Benefits:Medical, dental, and vision insurance401(k) retirement plan with company matchOptional elective benefitsProfessional development opportunitiesSupportive team environmentThis role offers the chance to make a significant impact on a students educational journey by providing essential communication access.
