Job Description

A part-time Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) is needed to support K-12 students in an educational setting in Barrington, Rhode Island. This contract role is designed for a dedicated professional to provide specialized services that empower students with visual impairments to navigate their environments with confidence and independence.Key Qualifications and Experience:Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS preferred)Experience working with K-12 students who have visual impairmentsAbility to design and implement mobility training programs tailored to individual needsStrong communication skills to collaborate effectively with educators, families, and other related service providersKnowledge of assistive technology and adaptive tools used for mobility trainingResponsibilities:Conduct assessments to determine orientation and mobility needs of studentsDevelop and deliver individualized instruction and training to promote safe and effective travel skills within the school and community settingsProvide consultation and resources to staff and family members to support student successDocument student progress and maintain accurate records according to district and state guidelinesParticipate in team meetings and contribute to the development of student education plansLocation: Barrington, Rhode IslandMaximise your chances of a successful application to this job by ensuring your CV and skills are a good match.Position Duration: Contract, school year (CSY)Schedule: Part-time (details to be confirmed)This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by enhancing the independence and quality of life for students with visual impairments.
