Job Summary:The Food Safety Supervisor oversees food safety and compliance, ensuring the production of safe, high-quality products. This role is responsible for implementing and managing food safety policies specific to the greenhouses, outdoor growing areas and packinghouses, conducting inspections, training staff, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards such as FDA, GAP, LGMA, PrimusGFS V3.2. The Food Safety Supervisor is critical to maintaining a safe and sustainable food production environment.The information below covers the role requirements, expected candidate experience, and accompanying qualifications.Essential Functions:Develop, implement, and maintain food safety programs tailored to greenhouse production, including Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).Develop & maintain SOPs: Write, implement, and regularly review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all areas of food safety, including growing, harvesting, handling, packaging, and storage of all products. Ensure all SOPs align with regulatory standards (e.g., GAP, FDA, LGMA, Primus GFS v3.2) and industry's best practices.Work closely with the Food Safety Department and the production department to maintain steady production and ensure documents are correct.Assist Food Safety Manager with customer complaint communication and CAPA (Corrective Action and Preventative Action with Root Cause Determination)Assist the Food Safety Manager with updating customer portals according to their requirements.Interact with managers and supervisors to determine and resolve food safety and quality related issues quickly.Provide ongoing training for employees regarding food safety, hygiene practices, and handling procedures. Update training materials as necessary to keep up with changes in regulations and practices.Perform other duties as assignedInspections & Monitoring:Conduct routine inspections of growing areas, harvesting process and equipment, water systems, and supplies storage facilities to ensure sanitary conditions. Document findings and issue work orders accordinglyConduct regular inspections and audits of cooler facilities to identify and address potential food safety hazards. Document findings and issue work orders accordingly.Conduct Risk Assessments and monitor potential contamination risks, including water quality, soil media, and pest controlOversee the environmental, water, and finished goods monitoring programs (e.g., for pathogens like Listeria or Salmonella).Ensure cross training with the Food Safety Crew.Knowledge, Skill, and Experience:High School Education, an education in the sciences and/ or experience a plus.Minimum of 3 years of experience in food safety, greenhouse operations, or controlled-environment agriculture.Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, (word, excel, outlook, and power point) required.Certification in HACCP, GAP, ALGA, Primus GFS 3.2, or Produce Safety Alliance (PSA) training (preferred).Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and standards for fresh produce.Familiarity with the Greenhouse environment in agriculture is a plus.Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.Proficiency in record-keeping and reporting tools.Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) in both English and Spanish required.
