To perform the job effectively, laborers must be familiar with the duties and with the materials, tools, and machinery they use. Must possess a valid drivers license. At times, exposure to the elements and extreme temperatures. Attention to safety and quality are critical. Work environment is dirty, mainly from dirt, asphalt, and oily surfaces. Teamwork and communication is imperative to the successful completion of assignments.Essential Functions:Maintains work area in orderly and hazard-free condition in construction area according to instructions by the ForemanShovel and rake materials and clean equipmentAssist with installation and maintenance of traffic control devicesOperate various hand tools, pavement breakers, jack hammers, etc.Performs daily maintenance and lubrication procedures as outlined by the company or according to manufacturer's specificationsFollow all safety procedures (OSHA)Checks guards, safety devices, and warning signs to determine they are in proper position and in good working orderComplies with all Federal, State, and corporate policiesAttends all scheduled training sessions and safety meetingsPosition RequirementsMinimum Qualifications:High School Diploma or equivalent1-2 years heavy highway construction experience preferred, but not requiredAbility to use various hand held tools, ability to respond quickly to safety demands and equipment malfunctionsSteady work history and attendance recordStrong focus on safety and quality in performing tasksStrong work ethic and attention to detailAbility to communicate and work as a teamAbility to listen and follow directionsExcellent housekeeping and organizational skillsFlexible work schedule including nights and weekendsA bility to meet the physical demands of the position, including lifting 50 lbs.Must pass drug screen and physicalMust comply with criminal background checkEqual Opportunity EmployerIt is the policy of Summers-Taylor, Inc. to provide equal employment opportunities without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, marital status, veteran status, sexual orientation, genetic information or any other protected characteristic under applicable law.
