The Associate would act as part of a team handling the investigation and defense of tort claims against electric utility companies.The associate attorney provides legal work and will collaborate with other attorneys, paralegals, and legal assistants on civil litigation matters. The job responsibilities may include, among others, managing a docket of litigation files, which may include drafting motions, pleadings, memoranda and briefs, propounding and responding to written discovery, conducting legal research, preparing for and attending depositions, hearings, trials, reporting to clients, and communicating with courts and opposing parties.ResponsibilitiesResearch and analyze legal sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, constitutions, and legal codesManage all phases of discovery, including propounding and responding to written discovery, electronic document production, taking and defending depositionsPrepare legal briefs, pleadings, appeals, contracts, and any other necessary legal documentationFormulate legal strategy and case managementAppear in court for status, hearings, and trialsWork closely with other attorneys and team members on legal mattersOccasional work in the field as part of investigationsCommunicate with clients and provide status reportsMinimum QualificationsJD from an accredited law schoolLicensed and in good standing to practice law in Texas3 years of prior civil litigation experienceSolid organization, communication and writing skillsExperience tracking and entering billing preferredPrevious work experience on civil litigation matters with focus on investigation and defense of tort claims preferredPhysical Demands and Working EnvironmentWork is performed in an office environment and involves everyday risks or discomforts, requiring normal safety precautions when performing work. Work involves some level of travel and fieldwork away from the office.
