Join us.General Summary:The Senior Software Engineer is a key technical leader within an Agile team, partnering closely with the Technical Product Owner and Principal Software Engineer to ensure high-quality, scalable solutions aligned with established architecture standards. In this role, you will contribute to the conceptualization, design, development, and delivery of features across the Total Leave portfolio, working collaboratively with business area architects to shape and advance technical solutions.A core focus of this position is supporting Unum's Total Leave teams through deep expertise in Fineos and custom Fineos development"”including hands-on configuration, Java-based enhancements, and the integration of Fineos components into Unum's broader ecosystem. You may also research and evaluate third-party and cloud technologies to drive efficient integrations and modernize solution capabilities.As a senior member of the engineering community, you will serve as a subject-matter expert across applications and technology stacks, providing technical guidance and mentorship to Software Engineers and Associate Software Engineers. This role is essential in growing future engineering talent, strengthening delivery practices, and ensuring the success of innovative, customer-centric solutions across the portfolio.Job SpecificationsBachelor's degree in Computer Science preferred, or equivalent relevant experience6+ years of software development experience in a Scrum/Agile environmentStrong Java development skills, including J2EE technologies (JSP, JMS) and integrations (Web Services, APIs)Experience with Fineos Admin Suite (Claims) configurations and Java customizationsExperience with relational databases (Oracle, MS SQL) and strong SQL query skillsStrong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with attention to detailSkilled in Agile methodologies, TDD, unit testing, and automation toolsetsExperience with continuous integration and delivery practicesStrong communication skills with experience leading discussions and collaborating across diverse teamsInnovative, self-motivated, results-oriented, and able to motivate othersStrong team player who partners effectively across the organizationPrincipal Duties and ResponsibilitiesLead the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of new and existing application featuresProvide technical leadership for EPIC feature delivery and ensure alignment with quality attributes (performance, scalability, fault tolerance)Design, code, configure, test, and document software using established standards and toolsCollaborate with architects and Principal SEs on coding standards, tools, processes, and reference architectureDeliver secure, scalable solutions that follow best practices and consider buy-vs-build and cloud-first approachesEnsure the product backlog contains appropriate technical stories and support prioritizationMentor Software Engineers and Associate EngineersMaintain accountability for solution quality from design through productionCommunicate and collaborate with key stakeholders throughout feature deliveryStay current on third-party/cloud technologies and their implementationAssess technical impacts and coordinate implementation of new product releasesParticipate in sizing, estimation, code reviews, sprint ceremonies, and retrospectivesEnsure high-quality feature delivery through manual and automated testing and CI practicesSupport architectural alignment and contribute to proofs of concept and prototypingPartner with Business Analysts, UX designers, Test Engineers, and Technical Support to ensure successful delivery and production readinessPromote continuous improvement and innovation within the teamMay serve as Scrum Master when neededMaintain ALM tools and communicate progress and impediments during#LI-TO1#LI-MULTI~IN4Our company is built on helping individuals and families, and this starts with our employees. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience. xijylhu $89,400.00-$183,500.00Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not.
