About the RoleWe are looking for an experienced Chief Estimator to lead our Estimating Department and oversee all aspects of bid preparation, cost estimating, takeoffs, and proposal development for underground utilities, pipeline work, grading, structures, and related scopes. This is a senior leadership role working closely with Operations, Project Management, and Executive Leadership to drive competitive, profitable bids and support long-term growth.Learn more about the general tasks related to this opportunity below, as well as required skills.Compensation & BenefitsCompetitive salary commensurate with experienceFull-time, exempt positionProfessional work environment with occasional field visitsOpportunities for career growth and leadership developmentKey ResponsibilitiesLead and manage the Estimating Department, including estimators, bid coordinators, and takeoff staffOversee complete bid processes "” quantity takeoffs, cost analysis, subcontractor/vendor solicitation, and proposal preparationDevelop estimating strategies ensuring competitive, accurate, and timely bid submissionsReview project plans, specifications, and addenda to identify risks, opportunities, and requirementsMaintain and refine historical cost data, production rates, and pricing databasesCollaborate with Operations and Project Management to validate constructability and production expectationsApprove final bid pricing, markups, labor, equipment, and material costs before submissionManage pre-bid meetings, job walks, RFI processes, and scope clarificationsBuild and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and project ownersDevelop standardized estimating tools, templates, and processesForecast estimating workload, staffing needs, and pipeline volumeMentor and develop estimating staff; support succession planning within the departmentQualifications10+ years of construction estimating experience required5+ years in a senior estimator, lead estimator, or xijylhu estimating management role requiredExperience estimating wet utilities, pipeline, grading, underground, and civil construction strongly preferredBachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Business, or related field preferred; equivalent experience consideredValid driver's license required; professional certifications (CPE, DBIA, etc.) a plusAdvanced knowledge of underground construction and civil estimatingAdvanced Excel skills; proficiency in estimating software such as HCSS, B2W, or similarStrong leadership, communication, negotiation, and analytical skillsAbility to manage multiple bids, deadlines, and competing priorities
