Assistant Controller Specialty Construction Contractor - Fort Lauderdale, FL (On-site)Is this the role you are looking for If so read on for more details, and make sure to apply today.I am currently conducting a confidential search for an experienced Assistant Controller on behalf of a well-established and rapidly expanding specialty construction contractor based in Fort Lauderdale. The company specializes in Doors, Stucco, and other specialty trades and is looking for a strong hands-on accounting professional to support the Controller and CFO.Role SummaryThis key leadership role will oversee accounting operations and staff, including accounting systems, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Human Resources, and employee benefits. You will prepare monthly financial statements for the overall company and each division (including Statement of Cash Flows and budget vs. actual), while serving as the primary contact for banks and various insurance carriers.Essential ResponsibilitiesReview, analyze, and adjust general ledger accounts monthly with supporting schedulesPrepare monthly journal entries for accruals, fixed assets, depreciation, liabilities, and over/under billings using the percentage-of-completion method based on the Work in Progress (WIP) scheduleReview and analyze the WIP schedule by job and division (Doors, Stucco, and Specialty) monthly; investigate unusual gross profit percentages and track adjustmentsAssist in hiring, training, and supervision of accounting staffProvide backup support for office payroll, review commission agreements, and administer monthly commission paymentsSupport management of worker's compensation claims, OCIP programs, prevailing wage compliance, and safety reportingHandle Timberline (Sage 300) software issues, create/test custom reports, data imports/exports, and ensure integrations with job, task, and inventory databases are functioning correctlyDesign and maintain advanced Excel reports and macro-based spreadsheetsPrepare year-end audit workpapers and analysis for the audited financial statements (provided to bank and bonding company)Prepare and reconcile various tax filings, including sales tax, 941s, SUTA, FUTA, W-2s, 1099s, and related-party Federal tax returns with K-1sQualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA or CPA candidate strongly preferred)5-10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with significant background in construction accountingStrong knowledge of percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, job costing, WIP schedules, xijylhu and over/under billingsHands-on experience with Timberline / Sage 300 is highly preferredAdvanced Excel skills (macros, complex formulas, and reporting)Experience supervising accounting staff and managing payroll/benefits/HR coordination is a plusExcellent analytical, organizational, and communication skillsAbility to thrive in a fast-paced, growing construction environmentThis is a great opportunity for a detail-oriented construction accountant ready to step into a leadership role with direct exposure to the Controller and CFO.If you have strong Timberline experience and construction accounting expertise, I'd love to speak with you confidentially about this search.How to Apply: Please send your resume and a brief note highlighting your relevant construction accounting and Timberline experience to
