This role plays a critical part in ensuring equipment uptime, safety, and operational efficiency while mentoring and supporting other maintenance technicians.What You'll DoIn addition to performing all responsibilities of a Maintenance Technician II, the Maintenance Technician III will:Advanced Equipment & System SupportLead advanced troubleshooting, repair, and diagnostics for conveyor systems, automation equipment, electrical systems, and material handling equipment (MHE).Serve as the technical escalation point for complex mechanical, electrical, and controls"related issues.Troubleshoot and support PLC"controlled systems, VFDs, servo drives, sensors, encoders, and associated controls (Allen"Bradley preferred).Identify root causes of recurring equipment failures and implement long"term corrective solutions.Preventive Maintenance & ReliabilityEnsure 100% completion of Preventive Maintenance (PM) programs, while recommending improvements to PM strategies to reduce downtime and extend asset life.Take ownership of assigned critical systems or equipment, acting as a subject matter expert.Partner with leadership to support continuous improvement and system reliability initiatives.Leadership & CollaborationMentor and support Maintenance Technicians I and II through hands"on guidance, troubleshooting support, and knowledge sharing.Assist with onboarding and training of new maintenance team members.Maintain strong working relationships across Operations, Engineering, Safety, and Leadership.Project & Vendor SupportSupport or lead capital projects, equipment installations, and system upgrades.Coordinate with vendors and contractors, ensuring work is completed safely, correctly, and to Staples standards.Validate work quality and confirm operational readiness following installations and repairs.Documentation & CommunicationComplete work orders with clear technical detail, including corrective actions and root"cause observations.Communicate effectively on downtime events, equipment risks, and maintenance priorities.Lead by example with safety, documentation accuracy, and professionalism.Essential Skills & ExperienceHigh school diploma or GED5+ years of industrial maintenance experience in a distribution center, manufacturing, or automated environmentAdvanced electrical troubleshooting experience ranging from 24V DC to 460V AC (3"phase)Strong working knowledge of:Automated conveyor systems and controlsIndustrial electrical, electronics, hydraulics, and pneumaticsPLC troubleshooting (Allen"Bradley preferred)VFDs, motors, sensors, relays, and control circuitsAbility to read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and technical manualsProficiency using electrical diagnostic tools (digital and analog meters)Ability to complete detailed work orders and documentationStrong safety mindset and ability to work independently during critical eventsAbility to be trained and certified on powered industrial equipment (forklift, EPJ, etc.)Preferred Skills & ExperienceTrade school or technical degree (Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics)Prior experience in a lead or senior maintenance roleExperience supporting automation upgrades or capital installsFamiliarity with reliability or continuous improvement practicesStrong communication skills (written and verbal)Physical & Work Environment RequirementsAbility to work in hot environments (up to 95°F at upper levels) and variable seasonal temperaturesRegular bending, lifting, stretching, and reachingContinuous standing and/or walking (up to 5 miles daily)Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and access elevated platforms safelyAbility to work in a moderate noise environmentAvailability for overtime, emergency response, and on"call support as business needs requireAdditional InformationMust pass background check and drug screenStaples does not sponsor applicants for work visas for this positionDemonstrated regular attendance and reliability requiredGet great perks.Full time hours, weekly pay, growth opportunities, and generous paid time off; hiring immediately401(k) plan with a company match, full benefits plan and options, and associate resource groupAssociate store discount and more perks (discounts on mobile plans, movie tickets, etc.)Full time hours, weekly pay, growth opportunities, and generous paid time off; hiring immediately At Staples, "inclusion" is an action word.
