This is more than a job-it's an opportunity to be part of something bigger.POSITION SUMMARY:The Director of Outpatient Surgery presents an exciting opportunity to play a key role in opening the new HUB Surgery Center as part of the Snoqualmie HUB project. This role will actively contribute to designing and implementing workflows, policies, and procedures to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality operations from day one. This is a rare chance to help build a surgical program from the ground alongside a highly engaged clinical and administrative team.This role will provide operational and strategic leadership for outpatient surgical services at Snoqualmie Valley Health. This role oversees all aspects of ambulatory surgical care, including pre-operative services, intraoperative support, post-anesthesia care, and related procedural areas. The role will report to the Chief Nursing Executive (CNE) and will work in partnership with the Outpatient Surgery Medical Director, assuming responsibility for directing, managing, and coordinating all aspects of the Outpatient Surgery Center. The Director will collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nursing leadership, and hospital administration to ensure safe, efficient, high quality surgical services while supporting program sustainability, regulatory compliance, and enhanced community access to care.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Clinical & Operational LeadershipProvide day-to-day leadership for outpatient surgical services, including staffing, scheduling, patient flow, and case coordinationMaintain an active presence in clinical operations, providing support and coverage as neededEnsure efficient use of resources while maintaining high standards of patient careDevelop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures appropriate for a CAH settingQuality, Safety & Regulatory ComplianceEnsure compliance with CMS Conditions of Participation, CAH regulations, state licensing, and accreditation standardsLead quality improvement, patient safety, and infection prevention efforts within outpatient surgeryMonitor clinical outcomes, patient experience, and performance metricsInvestigate incidents, near misses, and patient concerns and implement corrective actionsPhysician & Anesthesia CollaborationBuild and maintain strong working relationships with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and procedural staffSupport block scheduling, case prioritization, and flexible scheduling models typical of CAH environmentsServe as a liaison between medical staff and hospital leadership for outpatient surgical servicesStaffing & Workforce ManagementRecruit, train, schedule, and supervise outpatient surgery staff, often across multiple rolesPromote cross-training and competency to support staffing flexibility and coverageConduct performance evaluations, coaching, and corrective action as neededFoster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and engagementFinancial & Resource StewardshipManage departmental budgets with a focus on cost control, productivity, and sustainabilityOversee supply utilization, inventory management, and vendor relationshipsSupport capital planning for equipment replacement and limited expansionsCollaborate with Materials Management and Finance to ensure fiscal responsibilityProgram Sustainability & GrowthEvaluate service mix and case volume to support financial and clinical viabilityIdentify opportunities to expand or retain services locally to reduce patient outmigrationSupport recruitment and retention of surgeons and anesthesia providersParticipate in planning for facility upgrades, equipment needs, or limited expansionsInterdisciplinary CollaborationCollaborate closely with Nursing, Sterile Processing, Materials Management, Quality, Infection Prevention, Clinics, and FacilitiesParticipate in hospital committees, performance improvement initiatives, and leadership meetingsServe as a visible, approachable leader within a small, team-oriented organizationEducationBachelor's degree in nursing or related healthcare field (required)Master's degree in nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field (preferred)Licensure & CertificationCurrent RN license in Washington (required)CNOR or other perioperative certification (preferred)ExperienceMinimum of 3-5 years of leadership experience in perioperative or surgical servicesExperience running Multispecialty 3-4 room Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC)Experience in Critical Access Hospital or rural healthcare setting preferredDemonstrated experience with CMS compliance, staffing flexibility, and resource-limited operationsSkills & AbilitiesHands-on, adaptable leadership style suited to a small hospital environmentStrong clinical judgment and operational problem-solving skillsAbility to balance regulatory requirements with practical operationsExcellent communication and relationship-building skillsPhysical DemandsAbility to move throughout surgical and clinical areasAbility to assist with patient care or equipment positioning as neededAbility to respond quickly to emergenciesWork EnvironmentCritical Access Hospital outpatient surgical departmentVariable schedule based on surgical volume and staffing needsOTHER DUTIES: Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
