Real Estate Permit/Zoning Agent IIIJob Type: Contract (07/01/2025 - 06/30/2026, with high possibility of extension)Location: Jackson, MI 49201Work Arrangement: Hybrid (In-office: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday | Remote: Wednesday, Friday) Position Overview:CMS Energy is seeking a skilled Real Estate Permit/Zoning Agent III to manage and secure permits and approvals necessary for construction, operation, and maintenance of facilities. This role requires effective communication and negotiation with local, state, and federal agencies to facilitate the acquisition of permits, licenses, and temporary workspace agreements. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with regulatory requirements while representing the company's interests in various jurisdictions. Key Responsibilities: Communicate and negotiate Owner's requirements with regulatory agencies to obtain necessary permits and approvals for construction, operation, and maintenance projects. Utilize established company policies, procedures, and processes to manage permitting and zoning activities effectively. Develop and maintain relationships with agencies including railroads, road commissions, drain commissions, FAA, Michigan Aeronautics Commission, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Federal Forest Service, National Park Service, Department of Defense, and others. Prepare, complete, and submit requests for certificates of insurance and posting of bonds by processing the required documentation. Draft and send correspondence, including overnight shipping of critical documents to agencies or stakeholders. Interpret jurisdictional regulatory policies and procedures that impact real estate transactions. Review and interpret real estate documents, legal descriptions, and construction-related drawings. Manage multiple permitting projects simultaneously, ensuring objectives and deadlines are consistently met. Qualifications: Minimum 5 years of experience in the Right of Way/Real Estate industry. At least 2 years of experience specifically as a Permit/Zoning Agent. Prior experience with utility permitting is required. Exceptional organizational, communication, and negotiation skills. Strong ability to interpret regulatory policies and real estate/legal documentation. Proven ability to manage multiple projects efficiently and meet deadlines.
