This leadership role is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality production processes while managing a team of supervisors and production staff. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in food manufacturing, a solid understanding of food safety standards, and excellent people management skills.Key Responsibilities:Production Operations & LeadershipLead second shift production activities to achieve safety, quality, efficiency, and service targets.Guide supervisors and line staff to meet and exceed key performance indicators (KPIs).Monitor daily operations and respond to production variances in real time.Coordinate production schedules to meet sales, inventory, and customer delivery goals.Analyze operational data and recommend actions to improve plant performance and reduce downtime.Provide timely and accurate downtime and efficiency reporting to leadership.Food Safety & Quality ComplianceEnforce all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), food safety, allergen control, and HACCP protocols.Ensure production operations meet regulatory and internal food safety standards.Maintain audit readiness and compliance with third-party food safety programs (e.g., GFSI, BRC).Partner with quality and maintenance teams to resolve issues related to safety, quality, and equipment.Safety & EnvironmentalConduct regular safety audits and walkthroughs to identify and correct hazards.Promote a culture of safety through proactive training, corrective actions, and continuous improvement.Ensure team members wear required PPE and follow established safety procedures.Support incident investigation and resolution efforts; drive compliance with loss prevention policies.Team Development & Performance ManagementHire, train, mentor, and develop shift supervisors and hourly production staff.Promote strong employee relations and foster a positive, productive workplace culture.Establish clear performance expectations and hold team members accountable for results.Ensure completion of mandatory safety and skills training across the team.Equipment & Resource ManagementPartner with maintenance to ensure production equipment is maintained and operational.Maintain accurate records of equipment performance, downtime, and corrective actions.Support efforts to reduce waste, manage raw material usage, and optimize yield and labor efficiency.Qualifications:Required:7+ years of progressive experience in food manufacturing, including leadership or supervisory roles.Strong understanding of production processes and food safety regulations.Proven track record in managing teams, driving performance, and improving operational efficiency.Working knowledge of manufacturing equipment and process controls.Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and ability to work within ERP or MES systems.Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume production environment.Preferred:Bachelor's degree in Business, Operations Management, Food Science, or related field.Bilingual in English and Spanish (reading, writing, and speaking) is strongly preferred.Prior experience in a GFSI-certified (e.g., BRC, SQF) facility.Interested in hearing more?
