What you'll need to succeed as a Mechanic Apprentice at XPOMinimum qualifications:1 year of experience in tractor and trailer inspection and repair -OR- a technical school degree with certification in heavy-duty truck/trailer maintenance A valid driver's licenseAvailable to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, and weekendsBrake inspection qualified as defined in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations, Section 396.25Vehicle Inspection qualified as defined in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations, Section 396.19Basic hand tools required for heavy-duty trailer and tractor maintenancePreferred qualifications:High school diploma or equivalent work-related or military experiencePrevious or current ASE certificationsDiesel tech school diplomaPrior mechanical experience such as automotive or skilled tradesBasic computer skills Basic welding skills such as Oxy/Acetylene, ARC and MIG About the Mechanic Apprentice jobPay, benefits and more:Experienced Technicians can earn up to $28.45/hour including shift differential2nd Shift, 3:00PM-11:30PMQuarterly tool allowance to grow your tool kit Competitive compensation package Full health insurance benefits available on day one Life and disability insurance Earn up to 13 days of PTO over your first year 9 paid company holidays 401(k) option with company match Education assistance Opportunity to participate in a company incentive planThis is a Motor Carrier Act Exempt positionWhat you'll do on a typical day:Perform routine maintenance functions and adjustments on all types of heavy-duty diesel equipment, forklifts, and trailing equipment in compliance with the manufacturer, DOT, and company schedulesApply knowledge and work by DOT, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Interstate Authority, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and other rules and regulations, as requiredAccess any area of the equipment or vehicle to perform necessary maintenance, including inspecting and performing work in, on or under parts of vehicles and trailersRepair or rebuild equipment systemsConduct safety inspections of equipment and prepare safety documentationMove trailers throughout the property, operating a hostler in all types of weatherEnter job times and parts on repair orders to track activityOperate specialized tooling and vehiclesEnsure the work area is always clean, safe, and organizedInteract with operations and shop managementMechanic Apprentices are required to:Lift objects of various shapes, sizes, and weights frequently up to 50 lbs. And occasionally greater than 75 lbs.
