With 388 beds it is the second largest of Duke Health's four hospitals and offers a comprehensive range ofmedical, surgical, and diagnostic services, including orthopedics, weight-loss surgery, women's services, and heart and vascular services.$2,500 Commitment Bonus for Newly Hired Team MembersWork Location:Duke Regional Hospital Durham, NCWorking hours:Monday Friday8:00am 4:30pmGeneral Description of the Job Class:The pharmacy technician will be based at our Duke Regional Outpatient Pharmacy location that is scheduled to open the first quarter of 2021.The ideal candidate will be performing under supervision a variety of routine and advanced technical duties related to preparing and dispensing drugs in accordance with standard procedures and techniques.They must be able to balance efficiency with accuracy, work both independently and as a team in a fast-paced environment. The candidate must demonstrate excellence in customer service and teamwork while ensuring all medication needs and regulatory compliance standards are met. The candidate must model behaviors that exemplify our core values of safety, teamwork, excellence, diversity and integrity.Duties and Responsibilities of this Level:Serve as the primary training resource for new technicians and assist with evaluating their progress as directed. May assist in preparing schedules, setting work priorities and making work assignments as directed. Assist in documentation of specific procedures and quality assurance activities under a pharmacist review.Receive and triage information requests; research and provide information when and where appropriate. Refer other inquires to the pharmacist. Order, receive and stock drugs and supplies along with assisting with inventory management and control. Package medications as required for dispensing.Assist other technicians in performing complex procedures and/or calculations as required.Effectively follow workflow procedure with an in-depth understanding of each area (i.e., prescription receipt, data entry, pick-up, filling) for processing of patient medications. Deliver medications to patient care locations when appropriate.Manage personal responsibilities while being able to shift to help team membersRemains flexible for scheduling needs while easily adapting to a challenging work environmentProactively identifying and resolving potential problems to ensure patients have their medications when needed.Collaborates with immediate pharmacy team, insurance companies, and customers alike to resolve issues, ensure accuracy, and deliver a timely resolution of any medication or insurance related concernsPrioritizing patient needs and displaying empathy in all interactions to ensure complete patient satisfactionActively seeks opportunities to expand clinical, technical and insurance knowledgeIndependently able to contact patients via phone to coordinate pick-up of medications refills to ensure medication complianceComplete and document all assigned medication storage area inspections at least monthly. Identify and replace outdated and unusable drugs. Monitor assigned quality improvement indicators of individual or departmental performance.Weekend day shifts possible as the service expands.Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Excellent customer service and problem-solving skillsEffective oral and written communication skillsHighly organized with attention to detailBasic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPointKnowledge of Epic Willow Ambulatory computer system a plusBilingual (English, Spanish) speaking a plusAbility to work independently and to establish and maintain effective working relationshipsMust have previous pharmacy insurance adjudication experienceMinimum QualificationsEducationPharmacy Tech I: High school diploma or equivalent and completion of an accredited pharmacy technician-training program. or Acceptance into pharmacy school. or High school diploma or equivalent and one year of pharmacy or health care related experience.Pharmacy Tech II: High school diploma or equivalent and completion of an accredited pharmacy technician-training program. or Acceptance into pharmacy school. or High school diploma or equivalent and one year of pharmacy or health care related experience.ExperiencePharmacy Tech I: N/APharmacy Tech II: Minimum of one years related experience.Degrees, Licensures, CertificationsPharmacy Tech I: Must be registered with the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy within the first 180 days.Pharmacy Tech II: North Carolina Board of Pharmacy registration is required. Pharmacy Technician certification is required from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or The Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT).
