Payroll Specialist | 3+ Month Temp (possible temp-to-hire) | San Rafael | $40-$44/hourA well-respected, mission-driven nonprofit is seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to support its dedicated team. In this highly visible role, you will handle complex full cycle, biweekly payroll for more than 300 employees.If you bring hands-on expertise with multi-state payroll, hourly and exempt staff, varied schedules, shift differentials, language differentials, and other unique pay scenarios, and you are looking for meaningful, people-focused work in a collaborative environment, this is a wonderful opportunity to make an impact. Location: 100% onsiteStart: ASAPDuration: 3+ months with the possibility for temp-to-hirePay: $40$44/hourBackground Check: Employment is contingent upon clear criminal background check, credit check, and drug screenPayroll Specialist Responsibilities:Process biweekly multi state payroll using Kronos for 300+ employees.Review timesheets, verify calculations, and resolve payroll discrepancies.Prepare and reconcile payroll uploads to the accounting system.Process 403(b), FSA/HSA, garnishments, and related payroll deductions.Troubleshoot timekeeping issues and train new employees and managers on system use.Prepare payroll-related reports for internal use and regulatory needs.Maintain payroll records across multiple states, ensuring compliance with federal & state wage/hour laws.Support annual audits (Workers Compensation, 403(b)) with schedules and documentation.Assist with month end close, journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting.Partner with HR on payroll impacts of new hires, terminations, benefit updates, and leaves of absence. Payroll Specialist Qualifications:35+ years of full cycle, multi state payrollCA payroll experience required.Experience with complex operational payroll environments (multiple locations, varied schedules, shift differentials, etc.).Proficiency with Kronos/UKG required.Strong Excel and general accounting skills.Strong communication and customer service skills; comfortable training others.CPP certification is a plus.Associates or bachelors degree in Accounting or related field preferred.Required qualifications:Legally authorized to work in the United States21+ years or olderPreferred qualifications:At least associate's degree or higher
