Position SummaryThe Medical Billing & Insurance Follow‑Up Specialist is responsible for communicating with patients, government agencies, and third‑party payers to gather, process, and record information necessary to secure accurate and timely reimbursement. This role focuses heavily on insurance follow‑up, unpaid claims resolution, and appeals, while adhering to established billing procedures and productivity standards. This position works on routine assignments within defined parameters, follows established guidelines and precedents, and receives daily instructions related to work activities.Key ResponsibilitiesReview, correct, and submit insurance claims to payers using Epic.Communicate with patients, payers, and internal departments to obtain charge information, coding updates, and documentation needed for claims and appeals.Review unpaid, denied, and past-due accounts and initiate appropriate collection and follow‑up actions.Obtain and submit required information to resolve reimbursement issues.Calculate and process write‑offs, debit adjustments, and credit adjustments as needed.Complete billing and collection processes and prepare claims for distribution to appropriate sources.Ensure follow‑up actions are completed and expected reimbursement outcomes are achieved.Meet or exceed established productivity and quality performance standards.Provide general office and administrative support as needed.Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.Required QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED (required)Epic billing experience (required)Strong insurance billing and follow‑up experienceAbility to work within established procedures and guidelinesStrong attention to detail and organizational skillsPreferred QualificationsAssociate’s or Technical Degree, or an equivalent combination of education and related experiencePrior medical billing and collections experienceIdeal Candidate AttributesHard‑working and dependableThoughtful, kind, and collaborativeCurious and eager to learnSelf‑starter who takes ownership of responsibilitiesMission‑driven and committed once goals and expectations are understoodStrong communicator who works well across teamsJob Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Portland, OR.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.00 - $22.00/hr.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
