Competitive salaryPosition SummaryThe Surgical Technologist performs the primary role of supporting surgical procedures in the Operating Room. This position is accountable for preparing and maintaining surgical instruments, supporting the surgical team, and coordinating patient care while maintaining confidentiality, patient rights, and sterile technique. All duties are carried out in alignment with Mercy’s mission, values, and Service Standards.Key ResponsibilitiesSurgical & Clinical SupportAnticipate the needs of the surgeon and operative team while maintaining sterile technique and patient comfortAssist surgeons in a knowledgeable, efficient, and courteous mannerPrepare, organize, and maintain instruments and equipment using procedure preference cardsParticipate in updating surgeon preference cards as neededInspect instruments and power equipment before use; troubleshoot, report, and remove faulty equipment from servicePerform or assist with sterile preps and monitor aseptic technique throughout proceduresImmediately recognize, report, and correct breaks in sterile techniqueControl and manage contaminated instruments and supplies appropriatelyEquipment & Room PreparationPrepare instruments, equipment, and supplies for efficient surgical proceduresPerform point‑of‑use cleaning during procedures per policyHandle unused supplies following established guidelinesComplete room turnover and termination tasks per department proceduresCommunication & TeamworkAnticipate surgeon needs and communicate proactively with the circulatorRecognize and report emergency situations promptlyConfirm correct specimens and disposition with the circulator under physician directionCommunicate procedure delays or early completions to ensure efficient room utilizationReport instrument and equipment issues and identify repair needsUtilize downtime effectively by restocking rooms, planning for upcoming cases, and assisting team membersDemonstrate flexibility with assignments, workload, and scheduling changesQualifications & Requirements EducationHigh School Diploma or GED requiredProof of education may be requiredLicensure / CertificationSurgical Technologist certification preferredNon‑certified applicants may be considered with acceptable surgical technology experienceAmerican Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) requiredExperienceSurgical Technology experience required for non‑certified applicantsOperating Room experiences preferredAdditional RequirementsMust be able to understand, speak, read, and write EnglishMust be able to safely and successfully perform essential job functions, with or without reasonable accommodation, in accordance with federal, state, and local laws Why Mercy?From day one, Mercy offers outstanding benefits - including medical, dental, and vision coverage, paid time off, tuition support, and matched retirement plans for team members working 32+ hours per pay period.Join a caring, collaborative team where your voice matters.
