The Quality and Manufacturing Engineer serves as the single point of accountability for all quality and engineering-related responsibilities across the product lifecycle"”from incoming inspection through manufacturing, process validation, calibration, and final product delivery. This role ensures customer, regulatory, and contractual requirements are met while driving sustainable improvements in product quality, production efficiency, and compliance. The position combines responsibilities traditionally associated with source inspection, quality assurance, and manufacturing engineering into one role that owns quality and engineering outcomes end-to-end. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Quality Assurance & Inspection Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections of products to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, and customer requirements. Disposition product per established procedures and work instructions. Document and maintain records of quality issues, inspections, and corrective actions for traceability and continuous improvement. Create, review, and maintain inspection instructions, FPI/FAI/DFAI/qualification reports, FAT reports, and other quality documentation. Communicate directly with customers on quality matters, including inspection reports, testing, and project-related issues. Process & Product Engineering Develop, validate, and maintain efficient and quality-driven manufacturing processes for new and existing products. Create and maintain work instructions, process flows, and machine programs to optimize manufacturability. Interpret and audit engineering drawings, BOMs, and documentation for accuracy. Design, procure, and implement tooling and fixtures to support production efficiency and quality. Provide technical support in troubleshooting, debugging, and repairing equipment for PCBA, cable harness, SMT, through-hole, wire processing, cleaning, and coating processes. Continuous Improvement & Problem Solving Identify trends and recurring issues that negatively impact quality or efficiency. Lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action activities (CAR/CAPA). Apply Lean Six Sigma tools (FMEA, Fishbone, 5-Why, 8D, VSM, A3, etc.) to improve processes and eliminate waste. Verify effectiveness of corrective actions by monitoring production metrics post-implementation. Calibration & Equipment Support Maintain, calibrate, and repair gauges, test equipment, and production assets. Document calibration activities per specifications, drawings, and customer requirements. Disassemble, clean, and replace components of test and production equipment as needed. Support preventative maintenance and advanced repairs for assigned equipment. Compliance & Systems Ensure compliance with industry standards (IPC, J-STD, AS, ISO, Mil-STD, etc.) and flow down requirements to all departments. Support internal audits and Quality Management System (QMS) effectiveness. Actively contribute to new product introduction efforts using APQP and similar frameworks. Support audits, customer visits, and certification/recertification efforts. Job Requirements Education: BS degree in Engineering or related field, OR minimum 5 years of relevant quality and/or manufacturing engineering experience in a production environment. Certifications: IPC-A-610 and/or IPC-A-620 preferred; Quality Engineer certification a plus. Experience: Quality inspection, assurance, and engineering in manufacturing. Calibration and test equipment maintenance. New product introduction and process validation. Lean Six Sigma and structured problem-solving methodologies. Skills: Strong mechanical, analytical, and problem-solving aptitude. Excellent statistical and data analysis skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel expert), CAD, and 3D modeling software (SolidWorks/AutoCAD preferred). Strong communication skills (verbal and written), including customer-facing interaction.
