CNC Lathe Programmer in Manufacturing Clinton Twp, MI Day or Afternoon shifts available Salary - Compensation LATHE OPERATORS $21-28; lathe full programmer / & operator - $27-33 - Depending on experience Job Summary: The CNC Lathe Operator/Machinist is responsible for the precision machining of metal components by operating computer-numerical-controlled (CNC) lathes. This position requires a high level of technical skill to interpret detailed engineering drawings, set up machines for complex jobs, and maintain consistent quality in high-precision parts. Key Responsibilities: Set up and operate CNC lathes to perform a variety of machining operations including facing, turning, drilling, boring, and threading on metal workpieces. Analyze and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, sketches, and specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpieces. Install and align tools, fixtures, and workpieces on the machine, and make necessary machine offsets and adjustments. Monitor machine performance and tooling wear; perform minor edits to programs (G/M code) when needed to ensure quality and efficiency. Conduct in-process and final inspections using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, thread gauges, and other metrology equipment to verify tolerances within ±.0002". Record machining process data and complete documentation such as inspection reports, tool logs, and work orders. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with 5S and OSHA standards. Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, and quality control personnel to resolve technical and quality-related issues. Qualifications: High school diploma or GED required; technical training or machining certification preferred. Minimum 3 years of experience operating CNC lathes (Fanuc or Haas controls preferred). Strong understanding of tooling, feeds and speeds, and machining best practices. Familiarity with setup and operation of live tooling and multi-axis lathes is a plus. Ability to work independently and read complex blueprints and GD&T symbols.
