Controller - Architecture & Engineering Firm Columbia, MD | Up to $150K + Bonus | Flexible Hours & Excellent Benefits We are partnering with a highly respected architecture and engineering firm in Columbia, MD to recruit a Controller . This is a unique opportunity for a driven financial leader to step into a role that is positioned to grow into the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) position upon the current CFO's retirement. Key Responsibilities Oversee all aspects of financial management, reporting, and analysis for a project-based professional services firm. Manage and mentor accounting staff; be a hands-on leader who is comfortable rolling up your sleeves. Partner closely with the CEO and executive leadership team, presenting at board meetings and providing proactive financial updates. Review contracts and ensure compliance with project accounting requirements (cost-plus, fixed-fee, milestone billing, etc.). Support the transition to Deltek Vantagepoint from Deltek Vision. Drive process improvements and system implementations to enhance efficiency. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA strongly preferred . 5-10+ years of progressive experience in accounting/finance, ideally in an architecture, engineering, or professional services firm . Strong understanding of project-based accounting and contract structures. Proven leadership, management, and mentoring experience. Personable, proactive, and able to communicate effectively with leadership, staff, and clients. Implementation and systems improvement experience a plus. Compensation & Benefits Salary: Up to $150K + annual bonus (flexible depending on experience). 401(k) match: 3% of first 5% (eligible first of the month after hire). PTO: Negotiable.
