Vivarium Technician I

Job Title: Vivarium Technician I Location: San Diego, CA Pay Rate: $22.65/hr Duties: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Monitor animal health and room conditions daily. Feed animals and provide fresh water. Clean cages and housing areas regularly. Transfer animals to clean cages with fresh food, water, and bedding. Wash cages, water bottles, and equipment by machine or hand. Wean (separate) young mice from their mothers. Properly dispose of waste following safety guidelines. Maintain clean, odor-free animal areas to ensure comfort. Work effectively with team members and communicate clearly. Skills & Physical Requirements: Ability to stand and walk for most of the workday. Safely lift and carry up to 40 pounds. Move heavy equipment using proper techniques. Handle small animals and tools with care. Perform repetitive tasks such as feeding and cleaning. Bend, reach, and access cages at various heights. Visual ability to observe animal health and behavior changes. Safely perform tasks in a busy research setting. Wear required safety gear (gloves, eye protection, shoe covers) at all times. Work in laboratory and animal room environments (temperatures up to 80 F). Education & Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Excellent organizational, time-management, and prioritization abilities. Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy.
