Part Time Histology Technician at Saint Francis Medical Center, Peoria OSF HealthCare is an integrated health system that employs more than 23,600 mission partners in 147 locations.  They are seeking a histology technician at their medical center in Peoria, IL. This is a regularly scheduled job with a start time of 7am.  The employee would be working about 20 hours per week and have rotating weekends and holidays (rarely).  This direct hire position is intended to start in mid-October. Job Responsibilities ·        Prepares fixed and frozen section specimens for pathologists according to lab procedure ·        Identifies and logs specimens received and releases them ·        Assists pathologist with gross examination and autopsy specimens ·        Assists pathologist with autopsy as required ·        Prepares and maintains solutions and reagents as needed ·        Catalogues and files slides and maintain records of activities/quality assurance performed ·        Prepares referred specimens for outside consultation and receive/process results ·        Performs simple routine maintenance on equipment ·        Instructs histology students, lab assistants, and new employees as needed ·        Involved in the continues improvement efforts in the center Requirements of the position: Associate degree in a science related field required; bachelor's degree preferred Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnology program (within a year of employment) Certification by Board of Registry of American Society of Clinical Pathologists (within a year of employment) Approx 1 to 3 months on the job experience Preferred skills ·        Technical expertise necessary in order to interpret tests, recognize abnormal test results, validate and optimize new testing platforms. ·        Analytical skills necessary to interpret and determine appropriate specimen preparation method, and to evaluate suitability of slides and stains produced. ·        Ability to work on several projects at one time with good organizational skills, judgment and technical skills. ·        Interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively and communicate with patients and other health care professionals.
