This hybrid role requires deep, hands-on experience with both large-scale PV and battery storage systems, with travel up to 25% and an office location in Austin, Denver, or San Francisco (not fully remote).What You'll doWe are seeking a technically strong and commercially minded Senior Project Engineer to support utility-scale PV + Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. Responsibilities include translating BESS and PV technical performance into procurement strategy, cost estimation, vendor evaluation, contractual requirements, and project finance diligence.Establishing and managing technical requirements in contractual documents for Engineering, Project Management and Construction (EPC) engagementsSupport the Construction team in EPC selection including contract negotiationAssist the Project Management team in construction by providing necessary engineering supportComplete design and submittal reviews and approvals for projects in development and constructionManage Owner's Engineering as assigned to support ConstructionConduct site visits to support Construction progress and milestone verification with lenders and 3rd party engineersSupport Independent Engineering firms for 3rd party financing of projectsProvide technical diligence support for Project FinanceSupport budgeting and risk management to align with market expectationsDevelop task management tools to prioritize technical requests and provide regular deliverable updatesRepresent your specialty area at development and delivery meetings and in relevant third-party stakeholder meetingsKnowledgeDeep knowledge of BESS technologies and architectures, including battery chemistries, BMS/PCS/inverter technologies, thermal management and fire mitigationUnderstanding of BESS control/dispatch strategies, EMS, state of charge, degradation modelling and revenue stackingFamiliarity with NFPA 855, UL 9540/9540A, IEEE 1547, IEC standards and local regulatory requirementsExperience integrating BESS with PV plants, substations, protection and control, and interconnection requirementsKnowledge of project financing structures and independent engineering diligence for BESSAwareness of industry stakeholders and supplier market trends for PV and storageAbility to identify technical risks and translate them into commercial mitigationsEPC cost estimation skills including BESS scopes and balance of systemsQualificationsBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred) or equivalent technical degreeCAD experience (AutoCAD, SketchUp, etc.)Advanced knowledge of PV and storage modelling tools (PVsyst, PVsol, StorageVAT, SAM, Matlab/Simulink or equivalent)Experience with BESS modelling or vendor tools for lifetime, thermal and degradation analysisWillingness to travel up to 25% for site visits and meetingsExperienceMinimum 3-5 years in a similar role with strong BESS experience (5+ years preferred)Extensive experience designing and delivering utility-scale PV + BESS projects, including substations and energy storage integrationExperience with civil and site considerations for BESS installations (transformer/PCS pads, HVAC/thermal, fire suppression layouts, segregation)Track record in energy resource assessments and optimization opportunities for PV + BESS dispatchHands-on experience in construction support, commissioning and technical document review for PV and BESS scopesWhy you'll make a great member of the teamPersonal qualities: self-starter, independent, strong task management, ability to work under pressure, attention to detail, problem solving, and excellent communication to represent technical positions to stakeholders.We OfferCompetitive compensation: $135,000 to $150,000 annually plus a discretionary 20% annual bonusHealth, dental, prescription, and vision care for US team membersRetention bonus11 paid holidaysFour weeks of vacation and three weeks of sick leave annually401(k) plan with a 3% nonelective employer contributionHybrid working environment (in-office Tue-Thu; remote Mon & Fri)Monthly personal phone bill reimbursement up to $100 and commuter benefit up to $150Why you'll want to work with usWe are an inclusive, values-driven company focused on Safety, Integrity, Respect, Sustainability and Drive.
