Senior Data Center Electrical Engineer, Special Projects The Data Center Engineering team designs and implements the electrical systems that support our data centers. This role focuses on special projects within mission-critical facilities, ensuring safety, reliability, and efficiency while working with cross-functional teams and the Engineer of Record (EOR). Responsibilities Provide expert technical support to data center services and operations teams, defining mechanical system design requirements for multiple data center projects from inception to completion. Develop, implement, and manage the mechanical designs at the site level, from basis of design through to construction documents for new builds, infrastructure upgrades, and renovations. Collaborate with the Engineer of Record (EOR) to respond to site-specific engineering RFIs and ensure alignment between Google/'s requirements and the overall design. Own and manage site-level power system issues during project execution, collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve challenges. Work with the core engineering team to provide site-specific requirements during the development of the Basis of Design (BOD) and coordinate system-level schematics with the EOR. Minimum qualifications Bachelor/'s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. 12 years of experience in mission-critical facility design and construction environments. 12 years of experience with mission-critical facilities and their electrical infrastructure. Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 50% of the time as required. Preferred qualifications Master/'s degree in Engineering, Business or other relevant field or a professional engineering license or a Professional Engineering (PE) license. Experience in estimating, electrical design, operation, and commissioning of substations, switchgear, ATP/ATS, emergency power systems and their control systems, power monitoring, and electrical protection. Experience in design, construction, and commissioning of high voltage substations, medium or low voltage electrical distribution systems, AC/DC systems, and associated power management or SCADA tools. Experience working with data center equipment and environments (e.g., switchgear, generators, transformers, controls, security monitoring systems, fire safety systems). Experience with medium voltage systems. About the job Our lab mirrors a research and development department. You will work on cutting-edge strategies to optimize power and environmental efficiency in data centers, communicate recommendations to senior-level executives, and drive implementation with facilities technicians. You will ensure compliance with codes and standards, develop infrastructure improvements, and serve as an expert in cooling or electrical domains as needed. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including the Engineer of Record (EOR), to ensure facilities meet safety, reliability, and efficiency standards. As Google expands its data center footprint, you will play a key part in the design, implementation, and management of electrical systems for our data centers. You will work to ensure our facilities are built to the highest standards of safety and performance and will coordinate with other teams to achieve shared goals. Compensation The US base salary range for this full-time position is $214,000-$302,000 plus bonus, equity, and benefits. Compensation ranges are determined by role, level, and location.
