Job Description Distinguished Hardware Engineer responsible for the design and development of security appliances from specification through to mass production. Design responsibilities include: hardware architecture researching and selecting parts providing guidelines and instructions for PCB designs interfacing with manufacturing/operations group to optimize price/performance of product lead by example and set high standards for junior engineers and the team. Job Responsibilities Design Prior experience in designing products using Intel, AMD, ARM, and MIPS processors Knowledge of high-speed PCB design process (both front and back end) including design rules and design flow Proficiency in PCB design Tools (such as Orcad, Hyperlynx, Hspice, Allegro and Timing Designer) Analytical skills for device selection and prototyping Proficiency in data analysis/presentation tools such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project Ability to prepare key deliverables such as BOMs, quotes, schematics, design/test files, component requests/qualification, ECOs, etc. Networking and secure design standards knowledge Intimate knowledge of the PCI, SPI, and I2C standards Knowledge of 802.3 Ethernet standards and experience designing products with high-speed interfaces (from both a hardware and software perspective) Knowledge of wireless 802.11 standards Knowledge and experience in designing products with security features - such as TPMs, TRNG, etc. Signal Integrity (SI) and timing Hands-on with equipment and techniques for collecting SI data. This included collecting plots on general purpose data, address, and control busses as well as power supply rails, Ethernet ports, I2C, PCI, etc. Working knowledge of proper techniques for doing timing analysis on boards in the lab Test and manufacturability Knowledge of In Circuit Test (ICT) Short/Open Measurements and Testability for all discrete devices Digital/Analog tests and measurements Boundary scan testing (JTAG) Working knowledge of issues related to Electromigration, ESD, Thermal Profiling, PCB fabrication and Assembly Software Working knowledge of programming software such as C and PERL. The requirements for the job are such that the Principal Hardware Engineer is able to read and understand the code written in C. The Principal Hardware Engineer should also be able to write small scripts in PERL to automate everyday tasks and processes that are repetitive Given that the Principal Hardware Engineer is making selections for the various devices on the PCB, it is a must that he/she understands the low level programming details to facilitate a BSP engineer and provide feedback on how the devices should be brought up Cross-Functional Knowledge Work closely with internal groups such as Mechanical, Doc Control, Operation, QA, and Software, as well as External Vendors, Distributors, Fab Houses, and Assembly House in support for product development Leadership and Teamwork Ability to lead and mentor junior engineers Motivation and desire for teamwork and qualities of leadership Taking the initiative, leading by example and resolving conflicts diplomatically Required Experience 15+ years experience with a Bachelor's degree, or equivalent.
