Join us!In this role, the Operations Manager will drive initiatives to improve the effectiveness of the Engineering Material Systems (EMS) Composite Section and will interface with other functions within the EMS and Composite Community to provide effective coordination of metrics, dashboards, functional processes, and cross-functional initiative coordination. This leader will be responsible for departmental operations planning/execution and may also be focused on execution of professional activities within a technical discipline. Functions of this role will be with some autonomy but guided by established policies or review of end results. The job also allows for modification and improvement of procedures and practices covering work as long as the end results meet standards of acceptability (quality, volume, timeliness etc.). Knowledge of composite design and materials is not necessary but helpful in order to understand the customers of this role and their priorities. This role will report directly with the EMS Composite Section Executive.Job DescriptionRoles and ResponsibilitiesHolds the Section accountable via process standard work creation and metrics.Responsible for headcount, budget, risk number, technology readiness level, and various other data collections that are used for ultimate decision making.Utilizes in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline and analytical thinking and technical experience to execute policy/strategy.Leads strategy across the section leveraging internal processes and procedures to create new and improved processes and procedures where necessary.Has knowledge of best practices and how own area integrated with others; is aware of the competition and the factors that differentiate them in the external marketUses some judgment and has some ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters to address more complicated manufacturing processes with technical variety and/or interdependent production cycles. Uses technical experience and analytical thinking. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own teams to arrive at decisions.Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with low risks and resource requirements. Explains information and business processes, developing skills to bring team members to consensus around topics within composites.May conveys performance expectations and may handle sensitive issues.Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university or collegeMinimum of 5 years' experience in engineering operations and or in a disciplinary engineering and science fieldLegal authorization to work in the U.S. is required.
