Job Title: Nurse Practitioner (NP) - NutritionistReports To: Adult Reconstruction and Spine DivisionLocation: ProvidenceGENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Nurse Practitioner (NP) with a strong background in nutrition and metabolic health to join our team. In this role, the NP will serve as a key clinical partner to our Adult Reconstruction and Spine specialists, working directly with patients to optimize their health in preparation for orthopedic procedures, particularly joint replacement and spinal surgeries. The ideal candidate will focus on medically optimizing patients, and developing and managing personalized, medically informed nutrition and weight management plans for patients who are not currently eligible for surgery due to BMI, metabolic, or nutritional risk factors.Essential Job Functions:Conduct comprehensive health and nutritional assessments for patients referred by the surgeons.Assess medical status and develop plans to medically optimize patients perioperativelyCollaborate with orthopedic surgeons and multidisciplinary care teams to identify patients whose surgical eligibility is impacted by obesity, malnutrition, or related conditions.Develop individualized, evidence-based nutrition and lifestyle intervention plans aimed at reducing BMI and improving metabolic health to support surgical readiness.Monitor patient progress through regular follow-ups, adjusting plans as needed and providing ongoing support and education.Counsel patients on dietary choices, physical activity, and other lifestyle modifications in the context of orthopedic health.Document all patient interactions, assessments, and progress in the EMR system in accordance with clinical and regulatory standards.Participate in care team meetings and contribute to the development of protocols and best practices for preoperative patient optimization.Educate patients and their families on the importance of nutrition and health maintenance as part of long-term orthopedic care.Additional duties as assigned to meet office needs.Requirements:Must have an active RI NP license or be eligible for a license as an NP in RI.Experience or formal training in nutrition, metabolic health, or weight management strongly preferred.Minimum of 2 years' clinical experience, preferably in a surgical, orthopedic, or primary care setting.Strong understanding of nutritional status optimization perioperatively and risk reduction strategies.Exceptional communication, motivational interviewing, and patient education skills.Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary, fast-paced clinical environment.Experience with EMR systems and data-driven patient care.Must be able to travel to all sites if/when necessary.
