Job Description

We are assisting our client, Northland Lutheran Retirement Community, Inc., (NLRC) located in Marinette, Wisconsin, with the recruitment and selection of their Director of Finance. NLRC services include assisted living, skilled nursing and rehabilitation, independent living including HUD housing. Director of Finance is responsible for directing all financial affairs of NLRC entities using generally accepted accounting principles, including accounting, payroll, billing and reimbursement, credit and collections, and other financial matters as directed by the CEO.This is a hybrid position.Duties and ResponsibilitiesAdministrative FunctionsPlan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate and direct the financial affairs of NLRC under the direction of the CEO.Supervise and direct the work of the accounting department using generally accepted accounting principles.Review NLRC financial objectives, policies and procedures periodically, and at least annually, and make recommendations to the CEO.Develop and produce monthly and year-end financial statements, annual budgets, and cash flow statements. Present these to the CEO and assist the CEO in interpreting and utilizing the financial data.Maintain a working relationship with all NLRC program managers and department heads and assist them in developing and using financial data as appropriate.Interpret and present NLRC accounting policies and procedures to employees, residents, resident representatives, government agencies, etc. as necessary.Attend meetings of NLRC Board of Directors and various committees as required by the CEO.Review entries in all ledgers periodically to ensure accuracy and compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and relevant regulations.Review and develop a plan of correction for any accounting deficiencies noted during audits and/or survey inspections and present such in writing to the CEO.Delegate such financial authority, responsibility and accountability to others as necessary to complete all functions of the position listed in this job description and any others that are necessary or directed by the CEO. Supervise the work of all Department staff.Monitor internal controls to assure compliance with established procedures.Cooperate with financial auditors and maintain a positive image for NLRC.Financial/Accounting FunctionsEstablish and maintain an accounting system that accurately reflects NLRC and all entities income, operating costs and financial condition.Assist the CEO in the preparation of annual budgets.Prepare financial records and cost reports for submission to authorized government agencies as required by regulations.Prepare accurate and timely cash flow projections.Prepare and present recommendations based on financial data.Recommend money management practices as requested or needed.Maintain schedules of fixed assets and depreciation.Make recommendations on investments or placement of capital as appropriate.Assist CEO in financial negotiations with outside entities.Establish and maintain accounts receivable reporting. Report delinquent accounts to the CEO.Establish payroll accounting methods, including special accounting functions required by any employee benefit or retirement plans.Establish and maintain a system of financial recordkeeping to include ledgers, recording payments, writing receipts, post cash journals, prepare and make bank deposits.Maintain general ledgers to include the preparation of journal entries, coding of invoices, accounts analysis and reconciliation, closing books, setting up new accounts, etc. as necessary or instructed.Prepare monthly financial statements to include preparing monthly balance sheets, income and expense reports etc. as required or requested.Personnel FunctionsStandardize the methods in which the work of the accounting staff will be accomplished.Recruit and select competent accounting personnel. Assist the CEO when necessary to select consultants and auditing firms.Monitor accounting staff performance and make necessary corrections and adjustments. Document all corrective actions taken.Coordinate any required disciplinary actions with the CEO and/or the HR department.Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in business administration, accounting or similar field of study.A minimum of 5 years of progressively increasing leadership responsibility in a finance department, preferably in a senior living environment.Experience with Medicare/Medicaid reimbursements and HUD a plus.Excellent verbal and written communication with ability to convey vision, strategy and financial data in a way that is easily understood by all levels of employees.Collaborative and approachable style.Ability to treat highly confidential and sensitive issues with respect and confidentiality.Knowledge of GAAP accounting principles.Exhibits proficiency in all Microsoft Office suite applications.If you are a mission driven person who wants to make a difference, please submit your resume.
