Vice President of Nursing | Summit Healthcare Mgmt | Nashville, TennesseeAbout the Job:The Vice President-Nursing is a senior executive leader responsible for advancing nursing excellence, quality, and safety across the organization’s behavioral health continuum. This role provides strategic direction and leadership to standardize nursing practices system-wide, promote a culture of therapeutic engagement and safety, and ensure care delivery aligns with regulatory requirements, evidence-based standards, and patient-centered principles.Reporting directly to the Chief Nursing Officer, the VP-Nursing collaborates with hospital nursing leadership and clinical leaders to drive consistent implementation of best practices, elevate clinical outcomes, and support high-quality, compassionate care delivery. Additionally, this role is instrumental in leading enterprise-wide workforce development initiatives—focused on strengthening recruitment pipelines, enhancing staff engagement, and advancing retention strategies that support a resilient, highly skilled clinical workforce equipped to meet the complex needs of behavioral health populations. This position focuses on strategic planning, thoughtful resource allocation, and staffing oversight, while placing strong emphasis on cultivating a culture of safety, clinical excellence, and patient satisfaction.Roles and Responsibilities:Strategic Leadership and Collaboration: Spearhead the development and execution of nursing and clinical strategies that align with the organization’s mission, vision, strategic and financial priorities. Develop strong partnerships that ensure alignment in clinical strategy and implementation.Standardization and Best Practices: Lead the adoption of consistent, evidence-based clinical practices across all behavioral health facilities to ensure quality and regulatory compliance. Ensure consistency and standardization of nursing protocols across all behavioral health facilities and service linesWorkforce Development: Partner with operational leaders to enhance talent acquisition, professional development, and recruitment and retention initiatives for nursing staff. Design and implement clinical training programs.Culture of Safety and Excellence: Promote a positive, high-performance environment grounded in safety, quality, accountability, and therapeutic patient engagement.Clinical Oversight and Support: Serve as a mentor and advisor to hospital and substance use disorder facilities nursing, clinical, and operational leadership, ensuring alignment in care delivery models and continuous quality improvement.Regulatory and Compliance: Lead initiatives to improve clinical quality, patient safety, and service outcomes; Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant state and federal regulations and ensure nursing operations consistently meet or exceed compliance standards. Ensure nursing operations meet or exceed all applicable regulatory accreditation, and compliance standards (e.g., Joint Commission, CMSPatient-Centered Care: Promote evidence-based care models that prioritize dignity, empathy, recovery-oriented treatment, and active patient and family engagement. Advocate for vulnerable behavioral health populations and ensure equitable, trauma-informed care delivery.Education/Experience/Skill Requirements:Master's degree in nursing (MSN) required.Minimum 5 years of progressive nursing leadership experience, with at least 3 years in a behavioral health position at the senior role.Strong understanding of clinical workflows and healthcare documentation standards.Extensive experience in behavioral health or psychiatric nursing settings.Demonstrated success in leading quality, safety, and workforce initiatives in multi-system or system-level environment.Knowledge of HIPAA, HITECH, and EHR compliance requirements.Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.Ability to train, support, and collaborate with multidisciplinary clinical teams Must be highly proficient with the full Microsoft Office suite, especially regarding advanced Excel functions and PowerPoint.
