Our Urology Group Affiliates consist of Chesapeake Urology, Arizona Urology- Phoenix & Scottsdale, Arizona Urology – Tucson, Colorado Urology & Tennessee Urology.Position Summary:The Histotechnologist plays a critical role in the field of medical laboratory science by preparing tissue specimens for microscopic examination. Working directly under the supervision of the Director of Laboratory Operations and Director of Pathology, the Histotechnologist is responsible for preparing, processing, staining, and mounting tissue specimens for review by the pathologist, ensuring accurate and timely processing and handling of specimens.Primary Duties & Responsibilities:Responsible for tissue specimen processing by accessioning, grossing, embedding, microtomy, performing H&E and Papanicolaou staining, and coverslipping of all surgical/cytologic specimen slides for microscopic analysis.Loading the blocks on the processor, ensuring quality and timeliness of production.Modify and validate procedures and methodologies for immunohistochemistry, special staining, and other related staining.Organize cases by matching slides with appropriate paperwork and/or laying slides out in slide folders.Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, such as microtomes, tissue processors, embedding machines, and automated strainers, as well as troubleshooting equipment and automated instrumentation within the laboratory.Assists supervisor in meeting department regulatory agency requirements (CAP, CLIA, etc.).Implement and adhere to quality control measures to maintain the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results. Recognize and address any deviations from established protocols.Maintain meticulous records of specimens, procedures, and results. Ensure proper labeling, tracking, and documentation of samples.Maintain supplies and other inventory.Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities required of the employee for this job. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time, with or without notice.Qualifications:Associate degree and/or completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) Accredited Certificate Program is required and will be verified prior to employment.HT or HTL certification is required and will be verified prior to employment.Minimum of three years’ Histology experience.Immunohistochemistry experience required. Qualification in Immunohistochemistry strongly desired.Knowledge, Competencies & Skills:Excellent embedding, sectioning, and histology techniques with human tissues.Ability to multi-task, self-motivation, reliability, and accountability in meeting timelines.Excellent computer software and data analysis skills.Strong oral and written communication skills.Strong customer service/relations skills.Demonstrated ability to work independently and as an effective healthcare team member.Proven organizational skills and ability to prioritize effectively.Strong attention to detail.Maintain & adhere to HIPAA compliance/ regulations.Direct Reports:N/A.Travel:Must have the ability & willingness to travel to other sites as necessary within a geographic region.Physical Requirements for the Job:Regularly required to sit and stand for extended periods.Intermittently required to stoop, bend, speak, and listen.Sharp focus to adjust vision when doing close work that changes in distance from eyes.Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers.Frequently lift and or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.Equal Opportunity Employer: United Urology Group and its affiliate practices are an equal opportunity employer.
