Kitchen Manager

Our bakery-cafe offers eight different flavors of cake by the slice each month, in addition to whole cakes, savory fare and a charming weekly tea service.Our Kitchen Manager will lead our BOH team with a focus on high volume baking, supporting all areas of production from batter and frostings to cake assembly to our weekly tea service prep, in addition to supporting our owner with creative menu planning, cost control and inventory management.Minimum 1-2 years preferred.Our ideal candidate is a self-starter, punctual, dependable and hard-working, with a willnessness to learn, train and grow with our business. We're seeking bakers who possess a strong sense of urgency, great work ethic, positive attitude and good sense of humor to join us in a fun, rewarding and creative job.This position is ~30 hours to start, with great potential for growth.Saturday and Sunday availability is a must.*PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES** Oversee bulk baking, prep and cake assembly to ensure weekly production schedule is executed smoothly, efficiently and consistently* Manage weeky prep lists and inventory lists, including weekly ordering* Collaborate with shipping manager to ensure volume needs are met on a weekly basis* Ensure product consistency by maintaining/updating recipes, guides and systems on a monthly basis* Support owner with cost controls, optimizing labor, reducing waste and overseeing inventory management* Support Admin + Retail team with recipe costing for all kitchen products* Support owner with staffing and scheduling to ensure proper coverage throughout week*EXPECTATIONS** Maintain clean and tidy work station to maintain highest standards of food safety and quality* Train and onboard new employees, clearly communicating business policies and expectations*QUALIFICATIONS** Previous professional baking experience required* Strong attention to detail* Ability to multi-task* Willingness to work along side multiple team members in small space* Strong time management skills* Maintain a safe and clean working environment* Practice safe food handling procedures* Complete all assigned duties per shift* must be able to lift+ 50 lbs*COMPENSATION** $18-$20/hour* generous employee discount on whole cakes, wine and merchandise* free cake, snacks, espresso drinksWork Remotely* NoTo apply, please submit resume AND cover letter sharing why you'd be a great fit to our team.We look forward to hearing from you!Job Type: Full-timePay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hourExpected hours: 30 – 40 per weekBenefits:* Employee discount* Flexible scheduleApplication Question(s):* Please send a cover letter sharing why you'd be a great fit for our team.Ability to Commute:* Charlottesville, VA 22903 (Required)Work Location: In person
