Water Operator

*GENERAL SUMMARY*Operates the Town’s water systems and performs regular maintenance and repairs of the system. Conducts tests and inspections of the water system. Assists in the reading of utility meters. Operates equipment including pickups, trucks, pumps, etc. Performs other maintenance for the Town including repairing roads and cutting grass.*ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES*_The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description._* Performs daily water treatment plant maintenance duties.* Performs daily tests to monitor PH and chlorine levels in a water treatment plant.* Operates valves in the operation of a treatment and transmission system.* Reads, monitors and records water flows.* Conducts routine maintenance of buildings and grounds of all wastewater/water facilities.* Conducts repairs and maintenance on all wastewater/water equipment.* Assists in reading utility meters.* Operate heavy equipment, machinery, and specialized equipment used in the operation and maintenance of the water system.* Install, read, test and repair water meters, hydrant testing and maintenance of water distribution apparatuses.* Maintain water pumping and storage facilities.* Perform routine and preventative maintenance of vehicles and equipment. Assist with major equipment maintenance and repairs as needed.* Perform on-call duties as assigned.* General mechanical, plumbing and electrical repair and diagnosis.* Reading and comprehending maps, diagrams, regulations and policies.* District geography and street locations.* Environmental standards and compliance requirements.* Use safe working practices in the performance of duties.* Perform other related duties as required.* Work as part of a crew, or alone, whose primary responsibility is to water line laying, maintenance, and repair.* Maintain regular, predictable and punctual attendance.* Work a flexible schedule, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime.* Ability to work under adverse weather conditions.* Ability to read simple maps and drawings, pick up trash, keep storage areas clean, orderly, and in safe working conditions.* Knowledge of safety regulations to work safely with equipment used in utility maintenance work.* Experience working with various types of equipment including pumps, generators, backhoes, service trucks, mowers, wrenches, hand and power saws, hammers of various sizes, grinders, shovels, and drills.* · Performs related work as required.Job Type: Full-timePay: $46,781.00 - $63,155.00 per yearBenefits:* Dental insurance* Health insurance* Life insurance* Paid time off* Professional development assistance* Retirement plan* Tuition reimbursement* Vision insuranceSchedule:* 8 hour shift* Monday to Friday* Overtime* Weekends as neededEducation:* High school or equivalent (Required)Experience:* water system operating: 1 year (Preferred)License/Certification:* Class B CDL (Preferred)* State of Delaware Water Operator’s License or equivalence (Required)Work Location: In person
