Sawmill Shift Supervisor

*Position Summary:*The Sawmill Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all sawmill operations during an assigned shift. This role ensures that production goals are met safely and efficiently while maintaining high standards of quality and operational performance. The Supervisor leads the shift team, coordinates workflow, resolves issues, and drives continuous improvement in a dynamic lumber production environment.*Key Responsibilities:** Supervise all production activities within the sawmill during the assigned shift.* Lead, motivate, and manage a team of sawmill operators, equipment handlers, cleanup crew, and support staff.* Monitor production to meet or exceed shift targets for volume, efficiency, and lumber recovery.* Coordinate the flow of logs through debarkers, headrigs, canters, edgers, trimmers, sorters, and stackers.* Ensure all safety protocols and procedures are followed; promptly address hazards or unsafe behaviors.* Conduct pre-shift meetings, communicate goals and expectations, and assign tasks to crew members.* Support equipment uptime by reporting issues, collaborating with maintenance, and performing basic troubleshooting.* Maintain accurate records including production reports, downtime logs, safety incidents, and labor usage.* Collaborate with other departments (log yard, planer, maintenance, QC) to ensure smooth operations.* Identify opportunities for process improvement, efficiency gains, and waste reduction.*Qualifications:** High school diploma or equivalent (post-secondary training in forestry, wood products, or industrial supervision is an asset).* Minimum 3–5 years of experience in sawmill operations, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.* Strong knowledge of sawmill equipment, lumber grading, and wood manufacturing processes.* Solid leadership, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills.* Strong organizational, decision-making, and communication abilities.* Proficient with production tracking tools and basic computer systems (experience with sawmill software is a plus).* Commitment to workplace safety, quality control, and team development.* Ability to work rotating or fixed shifts, including weekends or overtime as required.*Working Conditions:** Industrial sawmill environment with noise, moving machinery, dust, and variable weather exposure.* Requires walking, standing, and occasional heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs).* Use of PPE (personal protective equipment) is mandatory.Job Type: Full-timePay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hourBenefits:* 401(k)* 401(k) matching* Dental insurance* Health insurance* Paid time off* Vision insuranceSchedule:* 12 hour shift* Weekends as neededAbility to Commute:* Brewton, AL 36426 (Preferred)Ability to Relocate:* Brewton, AL 36426: Relocate before starting work (Preferred)Work Location: In person
