We’re always on the lookout for smart people who are committed to continuous improvement, customer service and quality.JOB DESCRIPTIONJOB TITLE: Manufacturing Engineer, Assembly EquipmentFLSA STATUS: ExemptREPORTS TO: Manager, Corporate Tool RoomSUMMARYThis is a technical position responsible for the development, manufacturing, and assembly of manual and fully automated assembly machines for Summit Polymers manufacturing facilities both domestically and internationally located.RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIESUnder general supervision, this position is responsible for the following major tasks:• Apply the fundamentals of machining and machine tool technologies to manufacture and alter machine components.• Assemble complete fixtures using machined and purchased sub components and systems.• Help develop and maintain a functional understanding of machine safety standards, practices, and requirements such as using light curtain and SRDV technology.• Have a working knowledge of pneumatic systems, and apply that knowledge as needed to properly select, document, and assemble pneumatic systems as required.• Perform electrical and mechanical installations, start-ups, and commissioning as needed for new fixtures, and existing fixtures that require EC work on the Tool Room floor, or at the various manufacturing facilities.• Ability of integrating photoelectric sensors, proximity sensors, light curtains, motor controls including servo technology, color and vision systems, and other technologies as directed by customer requirements and best practices.• Participate as needed in design reviews, and department development meetings for input on robustness and manufacturing improvements, as well as adhering to fixture standards.• Interfaces with internal and external designers, plant engineering, and other staff members.• Develops and maintains best practices and machine standards.• Create and alter existing designs and BOM’s for engineering changes as directed.• Other duties as assigned.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEThe ideal candidate must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related science discipline. 3-5 years of progressive experience working with electrical and mechanical controls, and be able to perform basic machine shop duties. Experience with automated control systems in a manufacturing environment is preferred.SKILLS AND ABILITIES:• Possesses the ability to gather and analyze information and make decisions from a limited number of choices. Proven problem solving skills, root cause analysis, and effective written and verbal communication are required.
