*Times Leader Executive Editor **Position Summary:*The Executive Editor is the top editorial leader of the newsroom, responsible for shaping the journalistic vision, maintaining high standards of quality and integrity, and overseeing the planning, production, and execution of all editorial content across print and digital platforms. As a key member of the leadership team, the Executive Editor sets the tone for impactful community journalism and ensures the newspaper fulfills its mission to inform, engage, and serve the local audience.*Key Responsibilities:** *Editorial Leadership:** Set the editorial direction, voice, and priorities in alignment with the newspaper’s mission and community values.* Guide and supervise editors, reporters, photographers, and digital staff.* Promote coverage that reflects the diversity, challenges, and aspirations of the local community.* *Content Strategy & Quality Control:** Oversee daily, weekly, and long-term news planning for both print and digital products.* Ensure accuracy, fairness, and ethical standards in all editorial content.* Approve and edit key stories, headlines, and layouts.* *Team Development:** Recruit, train, and mentor newsroom staff.* Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and accountability.* Encourage professional development and growth opportunities for team members.* *Digital Transformation:** Lead the newsroom's digital evolution, including website content, social media, email newsletters, podcasts, and video storytelling.* Monitor analytics to optimize engagement and coverage impact.* *Community Engagement:** Represent the newspaper at public events, forums, and with civic organizations.* Build strong relationships with community stakeholders to enhance trust and relevance.* *Collaboration:** Work closely with advertising, marketing, and circulation departments to support audience growth and revenue strategies—without compromising editorial independence.* Participate in strategic planning with the publisher and executive leadership.*Credentials and Experience required:**Education** Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or related field (Master’s degree a plus but not required).*Experience** 10 years in journalism, with at least 3 years in a newsroom leadership role* Demonstrated success leading editorial teams in a deadline-driven environment* Experience working in local or regional news is highly valued* Track record of producing impactful, community-focused journalism* Experience managing both print and digital operations preferred*Technical Skills** Proficiency with digital publishing tools and analytics platforms (e.g., Google Analytics)* Familiarity with social media platforms as editorial and engagement tools* Basic understanding of digital security and data privacy best practicesAbove all else, the candidate chosen must have a strong work ethic, experience in multiple newsroom roles, a good sense of humor, and be a visionary for the future of local journalism.
