*JOB DESCRIPTION**Position:* Shift Manager*Department:* Manufacturing*Immediate Supervisor:* Director of Manufacturing*Classification: * Exempt*Summary of Position*The Shift Manager is responsible for maintaining a safe and productive work environment. He / She is responsible for leading, managing, and holding accountable the Production Admin Supervisor, Lead Tech, Manufacturing Training Specialist, and supporting team members. The Shift Manager is directly involved with programs as they relate to operations (e.g., manufacturing methods and engineering, cost reduction, training, staffing, safety, housekeeping, etc.) This is a working manager role and requires direct involvement in various roles. Administers company rules, regulations and policies governing employment.*Essential Duties, Responsibilities, & Authority*· Provides direction and mentoring to the Lead Tech and the Admin Supervisor, to facilitate production needs. Provides support to all production groups to maintain productivity.· Works with the Manufacturing Training Specialist to coordinate training & cross-training for Cell Leaders, Op 3 Blues, Operators and Associates. Ensures all training is appropriately documented & submitted to Training personnel.· Ensures that all direct report shop floor personnel are adequately trained. This includes things such as procedures for lockout/tagout, waste handling, use of safety guards, protective equipment, individual work cell training etc. Additionally, helps train personnel to quickly identify and resolve diverse types of production and equipment issues.· Co-leads monthly shift cell leader meetings with Manufacturing Training Specialists and looks for ways to continuously improve and upskill employees* Performs an ongoing review of production reports to search for issues tobe resolved to meet or exceed scrap targets, increase efficiency, and limit the opportunity for rejects (RMAs).* Oversees shift change to maintain proper communication on handoffs. Start and stay aminimum of 30 minutes before and after shift. Periodic weekend shifts/overtime required.· Leads daily meetings with Admin Supervisor and Lead Tech to discuss available employees, scheduling, open issues, continuous improvement projects and future production needs.· Works closely with the Quality Department to provide resolutions for non-conforming products.· Validates that all priority jobs are running and collaborates with team members to prioritize setups, unplanned maintenance, and other unplanned interruptions to the schedule.· Monitors the KPIs established by management and coaches the team on effective ways to influence positive results as working towards the goals and incentives.· Does 2-3 floor walks per day to be in contact and identify issues with every employee and each pressing running.· Fills out tooling review.· Actively involved in bell responses, set up times and labor efficiency goals.· Performs periodic reviews of all paperwork (process Windows, set up checklist, 5S, line clearance, GDP) to ensure it is validated by appropriate team members.* Evaluates direct reports on a timely basis in terms of agreed upon performance measures and in accordance with Sussex IM performance appraisal procedures.· Makes recommendations to the Director of Manufacturing on promotions and other status changes and notifies him of disciplinary actions, terminations, and transfers. Appropriately escalates personnel matters to Human Resources and Director of Manufacturing when necessary.· Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe work environment. Champions the 5S process and inspires all team members on best practices.· Follows Sussex IM’s environmental policies to protect and minimize its impact on the environment.· Maintains a safe 5S working environment to minimize the possibility of an injury. Always acts in a safe manner and ensures that those around them do not put themselves or others at risk. Reports any unsafe conditions to a manager.· Follows and lives Sussex IM’s Core Values. Recognizes team members for embracing the core values and positively impacting the company culture.· Performs other related duties and assignments as assigned or required.*Required Education, Credentials, & Certifications** High school diploma or equivalent preferred.*Job Specification*· Minimum five years of experience in plastic injection molding manufacturing area.· A minimum of five years supervisory experience preferred.· Basic computer skills/ experience required. Minimum three years of experience in an ERP system, preferably IQMS, in addition to MS Office systems.*Knowledge, Skills & Abilities*· Excellent communication skills with colleagues and direct reports at all levels.
