Production Crew Member and Farmer's Market Attendant

Fishkill Farms seeks to add a *vegetable crew member and market attendant* to our growing team! Crew members will participate in every aspect of vegetable growing, including greenhouse work, planting, hand and tractor cultivation, disease and pest management, harvesting, and washing and packing. In addition they will attend and help run one farmer's market stand each week on Sundays in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn.Fishkill Farms is a 3rd-generation, 270 acre fruit and vegetable farm in the Hudson River Valley, only 70 miles north of New York City. Practicing sustainable farming, our produce is sold through our Pick-Your-Own program, our farm store, farmer’s markets and wholesale. Fishkill Farms grows over 100 acres of eco-certified and organic tree fruit and organic berries. Crops include peaches, cherries, strawberries and over 60 acres of dessert and cider apples, grown primarily for Pick-Your-Own and our popular estate-made artisan hard cider. At peak we host thousands of visitors a day for apple picking. The farm produces its own fresh-pressed cider, homemade pies and donuts. Employees are motivated, committed and comprise many diverse backgrounds.*Job Description:* As part of the vegetable crew the candidate will be responsible for assisting with planting, weeding, harvest and field work related to vegetable production. Experience with farm equipment is a plus but not required. As a market attendant the candidate will attend our Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, market stand weekly on Sundays, selling our produce, hard ciders, flowers and other goods. Experience with cash handling, point of sale and customer service are required for this position. Training will be provided. Ability to drive farm vehicle two hours into the NYC/ Metro area would be required, but shared with another employee.*Schedule:* This position will be full time seasonally with hours dropping to part time in the winter months depending on the farm’s needs. The schedule will be 4-5 days a week, with Saturday and Mondays off. Typical hours are 7:30am-5:30pm depending on work load and weather during the week. Sunday hours are roughly 4am-5pm including market travel. The Sunday Market is year round.*Qualifications:* We seek mature individuals who are responsible, communicate well with others, and enjoy working hard. You must have the ability and interest to perform physically challenging and repetitive tasks in all weather conditions and be able to comfortably and safely lift and carry 50 lbs. Applicants should be detail-oriented and ready to take on the demanding schedule, pace, and inevitable challenges of a farming season with consistency and good humor. Applicants should be enthusiastic about organic agriculture and our farm's mission of producing sustainably-grown food for the local community. Applicants must be able to work with Square point-of-sale system and have money handling experience.
