Job Description

*GENERAL FUNCTION: *The Life & Resiliency Skills Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Life & Resiliency Skills Director with the creation, implementation, and delivery of life, resiliency, and mental wellness skills programming within their assigned Club sites with the goals of reducing the stigma associated with mental health and wellness, reducing the barriers that prevent our youth, staff, and families from accessing the service they need, identifying Club members in need of additional mental health and wellness support, and empowering Club members to make appropriate choices regarding their education, social, physical, and emotional needs. The Coordinator will assist the Life & Resiliency Skills Director in providing mentorship, parent and staff education, informal assessments of youth and staff, intervention and prevention support, and collaborating with key stakeholders to create and maintain a safe, trauma-informed culture within the Club(s). Services include, but are not limited to, check-ins with youth during daily Club operations, positive behavior reinforcement, implementation of assigned life and resiliency skills programs, case management, and parent education.*KEY ROLES:*_Training:_· Assist the Life & Resiliency Skills Director in developing and delivering training for youth and staff related to trauma-informed practices, social-emotional development, resiliency, and holistic wellness, as well as provide strategies for integrating resilience and social-emotional skills, trauma-informed practices, and wellness into the Club's culture and climate.· Implement scheduled SEL Program Quality Assessment observations to assess the quality of staff instructional practices, build a quality-focused program culture, develop program improvement goals, identify staff training needs, and provide information quality relate to specific aspects of our members’ acquisition and utilization of life, resiliency, mental wellness, and social-emotional skills.· Complete assigned annual programming trainings through BGCA, Children’s Services Council, and community partners._Wellness, Resilience, and Social-emotional Programming:_· Oversee, conduct, and document member programs such as SMART Moves, Passport to Manhood, WhyTry, Harmony SEL, and/or other programs & activities assigned by the Life & Resiliency Skills Director.· In partnership with the Club Director and Life & Resiliency Skills Director, create and implement trauma-responsive behavioral guidance and discipline plans for identified youth and staff.· Assist the Life & Resiliency Skills Director in selecting, scaffolding, and reviewing the effectiveness of the SEL, wellness, and resiliency curricula.· Collaborate with Club leaders to explore and develop opportunities for youth to be recognized for their wellness, social-emotional, and resilience-related accomplishments both at school and within the Club.· Work with Club leaders to create a “calm-down corner” within the Club where members feel safe to process their emotions and behaviors, take a “time out” from a trigger or triggering environment, and learn & practice self-regulation skills._Family/Community Engagement and Support:_· Plan and deliver a minimum of 3 family engagement events for the assigned Club sites annually.· Assist the Life & Resiliency Skills Director in maintaining and expanding our community partner referral network database. Vet new potential partners to ensure that their services are high-quality and culturally relevant. Track referrals made for members, members’ families, and staff.· Secure community partners to present youth workshops in assigned Club sites on topics such as self-care, responsible decision-making, teen dating violence and other forms of abuse, self-esteem, identifying safe adults, debunking myths and stereotypes related to mental health, etc.· Conduct the Harvard Flourishing Index screen with identified youth to determine their needs and strategize how to meet those needs.· Maintain and document regular communication with parents/guardians, key school personnel, and other support services._Leadership & Management:_· Meet weekly with Club leadership at assigned Clubs to identify and assist youth in need of mental health, skill-building, or other services, as well as identify staff training and support needs.· Provide direct support to staff during times of escalated behavior and/or crisis, coordinate team support, and apply appropriate interventions.· Provide case management – a youth-centered, goal-oriented process for assessing the needs of the Club members and their families, connecting youth/families to needed services, and documenting the interactions and supports for Club members.· Maintain records for SEL and wellness programs and activities related to both youth and staff. Ensure all data is entered into the case management software weekly.· Serve on the Staff Wellness Committee to plan and deliver an annual calendar of staff-focused wellness events, workshops, and activities._*QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:*__Education/Experience:_ Optimally will possess at least a bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, education, youth development, or a related field from an accredited university, and possess a minimum of one (1) year experience in a full-time position programming with and for youth. Like years of experience in a substantially similar position may be considered.· Demonstrated knowledge of youth development, trauma, behavioral challenges, mental wellness, and social-emotional learning needs of youth.· Ability to utilize independent judgment and take initiative within BGCBC policies and procedures as well as the scope of the position.· Experience designing and implementing engaging developmental/age-appropriate mental wellness, resiliency, and social-emotional development activities/programs.· Proficient in using Office software and technology as a means of instruction and communication.· Knowledge of youth and adult learning styles as well as best practices for coaching and providing feedback.· Integrate organizational values of fun, respect, integrity, community, and inclusion into programmatic and training content.· Proven ability to motivate youth and staff, manage behavior problems, and act with sensitivity and empathy.· Ability to prepare and maintain accurate documentation.· A safe driving record is required and must be maintained.*ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS:*Some of the work will be conducted in an office setting within one of the assigned Clubs; however, most blocks of time will be spent away from the office, providing direct services to the youth and staff in the Clubs. Various off-site meetings will occur at respective Boys & Girls Clubs.*PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:*High energy level required. Must be comfortable performing multi-faceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities; must possess superior interpersonal abilities; and the ability to get along with diverse personalities at all times displaying tact, maturity, flexibility and professionalism. Good reasoning abilities and sound judgment are also required. Successfully communicate through speaking, writing and reading with comprehension.
